Regarding foreshortening in: Lesson 1 Rotated boxes

While revisiting the rotated boxes exercise in lesson one, I noticed that the amount of foreshortening occurring on the “top” plane sharply increases after the second rotation and it made me wonder:
If a box directly facing us, is rotated in even increments to one side; will the foreshortening of the “top” plane be exponential due to both the new angle that we are looking at it from and the fact that the plane will now be moving into the space away from us?
Or will foreshortening typically be a linear progression in most cases?
Or am I just overthinking things?
