Just for context (not that it's very important), I did this lesson a year ago and "dropped out", so here I am doing it again.

Hopefully this time I pull through. To whoever is critiquing, thank you for your time.

Hello Zokalyx, I'll be critiquing your Lesson 1 exercise!

Lines exercise: Superimosed Lines, Ghosted Lines & Ghosted Planes

  • Your superimposed lines are excellent! Your lines are confidently drawn and show no signs of fraying on both ends.

  • For your ghosted lines exercise, I noticed that several of your lines aren't drawn accurately as some lines either miss both points or overshoot one of them. I recommend watching this video for more information on using the ghosting method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1HAVipdsZM You'll have plenty of time to incorporate this advice into your warm ups!

  • Same advice applies to your ghosted planes exercise, lines are confidently drawn yet a few either overshoot or undershoot one point.

Ellispses

  • Like your lines, your ellispses are drawn with confidence and are drawn through multiple times! However, I have noticed in your ellispse tables that you have the common mistake of not keeping several of your ellispses within their bounds. Make sure to use the ghosting method to make sure your ellispses are kept within their bounds as much as possible. The same advice applies to your ellispses in ghosted planes.

  • For the most part your funnels are very good, just make sure to remember that the minor axis should split the ellispes into two halves. https://i.imgur.com/f8vcg3H.jpg

Boxes exercise: Plotted Perspective, Rough Perspective, Rotated Boxes & and Organic Perspective

  • For your plotted perspective exercise, the back vertical line of a few of your boxes aren't parallel with the other edges, this is a common mistake that you'll have plenty of time to correct in your warm ups!

  • Your work on the rough perspective exercise is good but make sure that the lines connecting your boxes are always parallel/perpendicular to the horizon line as some of them aren't.

  • Your work in the rotated boxes exercise is great! Your boxes are rotating correctly and their corners are kept as close as possible!

  • As for your organic perspective exercise, a few boxes in your first couple rows are bigger than they should appear but it seems like you corrected this mistake in your second page of rows!

Your work shows a clear understanding of the lesson material and whatever mistakes that have been made can easily be remedied through warm ups!

Thank you for taking your time to critique my work!

I will take note of the corrections and take them into account when doing the warm ups. I agree that my lines are not at "level 3" or even "level 2" yet. I will work on that too.

It's also more than that - it's a hand-picked recommendation of something I've used myself. If you're interested, here is a full list.
Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens

Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
