Hi Cfasm,

Please take all of this with a grain of salt. I am saying this to help you improve. Overall you did well on the complex exercises. I can tell you are using your shoulder for these exercises. Good job!

Your superimposed lines are wobbly, but you will get better with this in time. The issue you have is lining up your pen tip to the starting point before superimposing your line. You should have one starting point for straight and curved superimposed lines. Fraying is normal, but this mistake is skewing the rest of your superimposed lines.

Your ghosted lines suffer from a similar issue. You are not taking the time to align your pen tip with the starting dot before you ghost and then draw your line. You should strive to connect both dots, but you should always make sure you hit your starting dot before you ghost/draw your line.

In your ghosted planes, you appear to have successfully hit the starting dot before drawing many lines. Although, many of your lines suffer from the same issue mentioned previously.

Your tables of ellipses are coming out well. I can see you put in the effort to draw through them a couple of times. This will improve with time! Remember, many of these exercises you will repeat in the future for practice.

You seemed to have forgotten to upload your Ellipses in planes exercise, or you forgot to do the exercise. Please let me know what happened here. I would like to give you feedback if you did this page if you did it.

Your funnels are good. I would even say they are pleasing to the eye. Good job!

Your plotted perspective should have two vanishing points. Did you use a rule here? This exercise one of those only exercises in which you are supposed to use a ruler. When you drew your lines back to the vanishing point, it appears you overshot the area.

Your rough perspective is good. Please make sure that when you are ghosting your lines that you align your pen tip with the starting point. I know I said this before, but please keep this in mind. Lastly, remember width lines should be parallel to the horizon and height lines perpendicular to the horizon.

Your rotated boxes. You did a great job on your rotated boxes. Please remember the pen starting point alignment issue. Most students struggle with this one, but you persevered. ????

Your organic perspective boxes suffer the same issue I mentioned regarding the starting point. I don't mean to sound annoying here. I know you can do it and I am cheering you on!

If you have any questions regarding this technique, please ask and I will be happy to answer.

Lars

Next Steps:

Please do the following homework and be sure to remember to align your pen tip to the starting point when ghosting and before you draw a line:

1 page of superimposed lines

1 page of ghosted lines

1 page of ghosted planes

2 pages of ellipses in planes (This was not included in the imgur images you submitted. I am not sure if you accidentally left this out or did not do these homework pages)

1 page of plotted perspective

1 page of rough perspective

1 page of organic perspective.

Remember to align your pen to the starting point of each dot when ghosting and before you draw your line. That appears to be your largest issue. I know you can do it! I will be waiting here to help critique your work once you submit your next steps.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Don't worry, it happens. I can tell you are drawing through your ellipses a couple of times, but you miss quite a few interior edges of the plane. Good job taking up the entire page space! You will get better at drawing ellipses and hitting all four edges of your plane with meaningful practice over time. Some of your lines that make up the planes are a bit wobbly. Make sure you are using your shoulder and are drawing your line fast. Drawing slow may result in these wobbly lines. Remember a wobbly line is always a mistake. Make sure that you focus on a confident line using your shoulder and you are drawing fast. It can be difficult to get used to, but I know you can do it! I changed the requested revisions listed above, please see them below.

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
