Hello! I just wanted to check to make sure that you've seen my 30 extra boxes. Let me know if there is anything else that I need to do. If not, I plan to continue on with lessons. =)

I had not, you submitted your revisions during the promptathon which is one of limited amounts of time where we take a break and ask the community to do so with us.

For future reference, it's fine to ask if you feel like your submission may not have been looked at and it's been a more than a few days. (In this case as mentioned you submitted during the promptathon which had a large banner across the top of the site and the front page explaining we wouldn't be available.) However you shouldn't be working ahead without getting your submission approved.

Now to address your boxes themselves, you've done a good job of bringing your vanishing points in closer as asked but there is still some noticeable wobbling occurring that was brought up in your original critique, as well as your lesson 1 critique. I can't stress enough the importance of drawing confidently, wobbling occurs when you hesitate.

I'll be asking you to draw 15 more boxes please, focus on following the principles of markmaking introduced in lesson 1.

Next Steps:

15 more boxes please.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Ahhh, the promptathon, thanks for telling me. I'm sorry, I missed the posting saying that you guys were taking the week off. Yeah, my lines are wobbly a lot. It seems like my lines still wobble a lot no matter what I try though. I reread the principles of mark making and tried to follow all of them. I tried drawing more quickly to cut back on hesitation, and I focused on drawing with my shoulder for these fifteen boxes. But sometimes my pen just wobbles and I’m not sure why.

These are looking better but there is still some noticeable wobbling occurring as you mentioned.

Wobbling is always a result of hesitation (unless you're drawing on a soft surface like a bed or something) so I hope you can reflect on whether or not you're following the ghosting instructions to the letter. It's common for students to fall off the bandwagon, put less time into their planning and preparation, and ultimately compensate for that lack of prep by taking longer in the execution, resulting in more hesitation without necessarily realizing it.

I'll be marking your submission complete with the hopes you can address this in your own time, if not know that it may result in more revisions in the future.

Keep practicing boxes and previous exercises as warm ups and best of luck in lesson 2.

Next Steps:

Move on to lesson 2.

This critique marks this lesson as complete.

PureRef

PureRef

This is another one of those things that aren't sold through Amazon, so I don't get a commission on it - but it's just too good to leave out. PureRef is a fantastic piece of software that is both Windows and Mac compatible. It's used for collecting reference and compiling them into a moodboard. You can move them around freely, have them automatically arranged, zoom in/out and even scale/flip/rotate images as you please. If needed, you can also add little text notes.

When starting on a project, I'll often open it up and start dragging reference images off the internet onto the board. When I'm done, I'll save out a '.pur' file, which embeds all the images. They can get pretty big, but are way more convenient than hauling around folders full of separate images.

Did I mention you can get it for free? The developer allows you to pay whatever amount you want for it. They recommend $5, but they'll allow you to take it for nothing. Really though, with software this versatile and polished, you really should throw them a few bucks if you pick it up. It's more than worth it.
