Hey there, I'll be handling your lesson 1 critique.

Let's start off with your Lines section.

Not a bad start with the super imposed lines, you do suffer from more fraying in the longer and curved lines which is expected and will improve with time. Other then that you do end up with fraying on both ends in some cases which is a sign you may be a bit hasty instead of taking the time to line your pen up correctly. (You do mention this so I won't lecture you too hard on it, just keep it in mind.)

In the ghosted lines and planes exercises you do show that you can make confident lines which is great, you're not getting much wobbling but you do start to arc and wave in the longer attempts. This is most likely you not being adjusted to using your shoulder and your elbow/wrist taking over the line. I have no doubt this will improve as you build up your muscle memory and the fact that you're drawing lines this large is something a lot of people don't do so props for that. Drawing large tends to help people realize their mistakes which helps them grow faster, so it's a good habit to form just don't be afraid of drawing smaller as well, variety is key.

On to your Ellipses.

Lots of size and shape variety here which is great. Overall the majority of your ellipses are looking smooth and round. You do get a few instances of squared edges or pinched ends when you stress about keeping them within the boundaries you've established, just remember that right now our priority is smooth round ellipses and accuracy will come with mileage.

In the funnels exercise you were close to keeping your ellipses divided equally and aligned by the funnel's central minor axis, great work it's tricky to accomplish. Just remember that it's ultimately your goal when attempting this in your future warm ups, people tend to forget.

Lastly let's go over your Boxes.

Great work on the plotted perspective exercise.

In the rough perspective exercise your correction lines end up mostly in the area of the vanishing point which is a good start. You want to make sure you do your best to keep your horizontal lines parallel and your vertical lines perpendicular to the horizon line in future attempts. Your line quality does dip a bit here as well, it's common as most people tend to be worried about the current concepts they're learning they slip on earlier concepts they've learned. Just try to remember ghosting and confident lines are key and you should do so before creating any mark.

The last 2 exercises are meant to be a challenge at this point so good work surviving being thrown into the deep end.

You had a solid attempt a the rotated boxes exercise, you managed to achieve some rotation and kept your spacing fairly even. By keeping your spacing even you were able to use nearby boxes as a guide in creating solid looking boxes which is great to see. You do seem to struggle with perspective a bit but even having this tiny bit of a guide showed you can get results and you'll only improve as you work on your understanding of constructing in 3D space.

In the organic perspective exercise your boxes do diverge at points which results in them not appearing as solid as they should, but you have shown that you understand the more important (at this point) concept that the further away a box is from the viewer the smaller it gets.

Overall this is a good start, I'll be marking your lesson as complete and moving you on to the 250 box challenge where you'll gain a better understanding of constructing in 3D space as well as working with multiple sets of lines and their respective vanishing points.

Great work so far and good luck!
