Hello! Haitrinhbach. I am Doctormein and i'll be critiquing your homework for today.
Arrows.
At the core of this exercise. The arrows are being drawn decently, You're not afraid of letting them overlaps each others which is great, But i think you'll be able to convey the illusion much more effectively if you're making them Compress even more. And personally I think that in some of these arrows the line quality felt a bit hesitant sometimes so fixing on that might be great in my opinion.
Technicals Exercises
Leaves.
I think your leaves so far looks great. You start dead simple with construction first before moving forward on any edges details or texture. (Including making them fold naturally too.)
But there's always something to critique on.
For the Additional textures of the leaves. (Veins , tiny tubes etc.)
If you remembered from lesson 2 texture and details in the "Texture analysis" exercise, The same principles applied here. (Drawing cast shadows not lines , making transition from dense to sparse etc.
And while the same principles of "Dissection" Also applied too. I think you understand how texture bend with this form nicely.
Nonetheless i'll leave you with this link here and i think this will also benefit you nicely too (Complex leaves structure.)
Branches.
In this exercise the first thing that jumps out to me is that You seem to be drawing your line from one ellipses to another. What you should be doing is instead Draw your lines PAST the second ellipses and stop halfway to the third. as requested right here
As for the forking branches, While i think it isn't much of a deal. I still think you should draw the ellipses on the edges of the ball instead of inside it. here
Plants Constructions.
For plant construction, I think the major concern here is the Line quality. Aside from the demos themselves the line quality felt a bit Scratchy and hesitant.
And before moving on to construction You should fill 1 page with only 1 plant, Because by drawing things bigger it'll allow your brain to work through the spatial problem that is being presented.
Now for the construction.
Cactus , Lotus (Not demos)
For the cactus always remember to not leave the construction open ended. If you take a look at your roots (I think?) of the cactus. You drew them pretty flat instead of being a 3d form.
And i think for the cactus you'll also benefit from Poles as seen here. right now you're drawing them as mentioned above like a flat 2d shapes. (You can ask me for a demo if you're uncertain about it. But mine won't be as good as uncomfy so i recommend checking the website out.) https://imgur.com/a/d01Pyj5
For the lotus the primary concern here is You're not drawing through your form Try your best to see through the image and attempt to draw through your form if possible. Same goes with underwater plants
Second page (Not demos.)
You're not following Branches , Leaves construction and you're not starting with simple geometric form. with previously mentioned line work issue
Underwater , Mushroom
For underwater as previously mentioned Draw through your form. and start simple (Start with cylinder , boxes , cones , pyramid , Balls.) and after that focusing on organic form (Sausages.) And finally flat form. Right now you're not drawing them constructionally (Drawing lines instead of form) Which resulted in flat looking plant.
As for mushroom just like above. Draw through your form. and always cap the things off. don't leave stuff open ended. (And you can always reference to the uncomfy demo for mushroom)
And lastly for the pots don't draw them without thickness. Pots are not paper thin. Instead add another ellipses along the pot to make it have some thickness with confidently draw and hesitation-free execution (I make this mistake at first too But you should keep this in mind nonetheless)
I think the major issue has been pointed out so i'll be moving to conclusion
Next Steps:
(Conclusion)
Your primary concern here is your line quality
Remember that we're not Sketching here. Every line must be put down with clear intention even if its wrongly placed or inaccurate.
I would like an additional
-
3 pages of plant construction
-
1 page of branches
(Plant construction) Focusing on
-
Line quality (Confident , Hesitation-free execution with clear forethought)
-
Filling only 1 plant per page and draw as big as possible, So that you can work through the spatial problem
-
Always start simple. With basic construction (Such as branches , or balls.) Before moving forward with flat flowing shapes (Leaves)
-
Drawing through your form, So you can understand the spatial problem presented.
-
Observe your subject and identifying its basic component. Don't try to rush it
(Branches) Focusing on
- Drawing your lines PAST the second ellipses and stop halfway to the third.
