Hey, hey Lerin here, you're getting your critique, whoop!! I'm not the best but I will for sure give my best!

Let's start with the Lines:

Your straight lines are straight. Which is perfect! Confidence in your line is they goal of this exercise, so well done! The fraying on the end of the lines is perfectly fine.

Your arcing lines are wobbling a little bit. At this point I'd say that's okay, especially since you already started to improve on your next sheet. Well done!

For the Ghosted Lines, you nailed down the Confidence. Great! However, your lines have a slight arc to them. You might use your shoulder pivot too much. In this case you can try arching into the other direction to level it out next time.

You're also shooting way beyond your set point sometimes. Take as much time as you need with Ghosting so that you won't shoot out too much.

In the Ghosted Planes I noticed you didn't place any starting and ending dots for the cross in the middle of the planes. However, this is crucial to apply the Ghosting Method correctly. You should also try to fill out the space on your sheet as much as possible (see the provided example here: https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/ghostedplanes) I know it's hard but don't be afraid to make your planes bigger. Drawing a straight plotted line that takes up a lot of space is hard, especially if you don't want it to arch to much, but you won't learn it if you don't do it. Try experimenting with the sizes more. You can do it!

I'd say do one more sheet of Ghosted Planes to nail that down. (I had to do it too, because you will definitely need that skill later one, apparently.)

Ellipses

Your Ellipses are smooth and confident, which is the main goal of the exercise so good job!

You often times (especially at the beginning) had issues with staying within the bounds you set, sometimes shooting out way beyond them. You improved on that in the following sheets, but you still tend to shoot out of bounds here and there. If you want to, you can add a few Ellipses in the Ghosted Planes Sheet, but you can also just do it next time for a warm-up.

Boxes

For the Plotted and Rough Perspective, I don't really see any issues. The with and height lines are horizontal and perpendicular to the horizon. The rest goes towards the vanishing point. Don't worry about not hitting your mark yet or the boxes looking weird, you will work on that during the 250 Box Challenge.

For the rotated boxes, you need to place each box right next to the one beside it, or the assignment will not work out. The way you did it is shown here: https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/9a16c189.jpg This will only make the already hard assignment harder for you. Don't forget the boxes are all the same size, hence the box next to the first, should have the same height. I'd suggest reading through or watching the Lesson Video one more time. However you don't have to do the entire assignment one more time. As I said, you'll work on this in the upcoming challenge. The video might help understand what you missed the first time around.

Same goes for the Organic Perspective. Just remember to draw the lines without an arch or wobble in the 250 Box challenge - or as close to that as possible.

All in all you have the main thing down: Confidence in your stroke. Before continuing do the Ghosted Planes one more time and fill it with ellipses (if you want to). Don't forget to use as much space as possible!

Good job on the rest! You can do it!

Next Steps:

One Sheet of Ghosted Planes, Ellipses optional.

Hey there, Lerin! Thank you so much for looking over my work. I posted the revisions you requested at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1uubUakwxjgimqZsUspc_UPrEroP0awjB/view?usp=sharing Ellipses are still giving me a bunch of trouble but hopefully practice will make better. I may need to bump that 15 minute warm-up to 20 minutes or gasp 30... anyway, thanks for your time.

Hey hey! Those are looking good!

I think 20 minutes are more than enough, don't stress yourself :D Especially since you're gonna continue practising Lines and Ellipses during the 250 Box Challenge and later the 250 Cylinder Challenge.

Good luck on the 250 Boxes!

Next Steps:

-250 Box Challenge, good luck!

Color and Light by James Gurney

Color and Light by James Gurney

Some of you may remember James Gurney's breathtaking work in the Dinotopia series. This is easily my favourite book on the topic of colour and light, and comes highly recommended by any artist worth their salt. While it speaks from the perspective of a traditional painter, the information in this book is invaluable for work in any medium.
