Lesson 1: Lines, Ellipses and Boxes
10:44 AM, Thursday January 14th 2021
Hey! I'd love to get some feedback on this.
Organic perspective kicked my butt, but I hope it will improve once I get to the 250bkx challenge
Hi, I will give you feedback on these based on the official lesson 1 critique guide https://pastebin.com/dYnFt9PQ
****Lines
Your superimposed lines are a bit wobbly, you need to be more confident and draw them faster, be sure to also use your shoulder while drawing them.
Your ghosting lines exercise is missing.
The ghosting planes are again a bit wobbly but better than the lines, be sure to keep the confidence ahead of the accuracy in your priorities. Also one of them seems corrected with white paint, embrace your mistakes and use them as learning opportunities, there is no need to cover them.
****Ellipses
The ellipses tables are mostly straight and they hit the boundaries but you seem to slow down sometimes for the sake of accuracy.
The ellipses in planes are pretty good.
Ellipses in funnels look good, but some of them are wobbly, always draw them with confidence even if they are not precise.
****Boxes
First one ok.
Rough perspective is ok.
In the rotated boxes you made this error:
{
Mistake: Not keeping things together
Keeping your gaps narrow and consistent is critical to being able to use neighbouring forms as effectively as possible to infer information about space.
}
and thus the lines you made are not very accurate and they look a bit messy. Don't worry too much about it for now, think about it when you will try the exercise again when you have a bit more practice under your hand.
Some minor perspective errors in organic perspective, you'll improve them in the 250 boxes challenge.
Next Steps:
You understood the basic concepts of the lesson, but be sure to work on the confidence of your lines. Always try for a fast and straight mark on the paper.
The ghosted lines exercise is missing, when you submit that I'll mark this lesson as complete.
A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.
In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
