Hi Im a mainly digital artist looking to practice my fundamentals. Was wondering i I should be okay to move on to the 250 boxes challenge. Thank you in advance for the feedback!

Looks good to me! Couple of notes:

  1. There are a few points where your pen visibly stops mid-stroke, probably because you're course-correcting? It leaves a slightly jagged mark in the middle of the line, which is quite visible.

  2. The final exercise, organic perspective -- the lines of the boxes aren't very confident. I would suggest that you draw dots to demarcate the intended positions of your lines. Treat it like the ghosted line exercise (except with perspective and VPs).

Next Steps:

Thank you so much for your response! If I could ask some questions,

  1. Do you think you could specify which exercises specifically you see this? I think I have a rough idea of where you're seeing them but I'd like to make sure we're on the same page so I can try to correct myself moving on.

  2. And yeah I agree, I think my line quality dipped in comparison to previous exercises when trying spreading my focus across all the disciplines practiced in that exercise. I'll make sure to take my time and try to focus on planning my lines more moving on.

Again, thank you for your critique! Really appreciate it.

  1. I noticed it most obviously in the table of ellipses, where it looked jagged. I don't think it's particularly important that you go back over things, just that you are aware of it going forwards.

  2. Similarly, don't worry about it! Please do start the 250 box challenge and plot your lines when you do so.

Word of advice: find a nice podcost. 250 boxes gets awful repetitive and having something to occupy your mind makes it actually kinda pleasant. I enjoyed the Magnus Archive :)

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
