Lesson 4: Applying Construction to Insects and Arachnids

This lesson was definitely a lot harder than plants. I already have some problems with line confidence, which can lead to a lot of excess marks and accumulation of black ink on the page, and the intricacy of bugs and their many body parts exacerbated that problem. It was difficult to keep track of the hierarchy of lines while working since I can't vary line thickness with a fineliner. I know you can address this in the final drawing by going over your lines, adding some small shadows, etc., but what about while you're working and trying to make sense of the forms? The digital brush used in the demos seems to mimic ballpoint pen more than fineliners in terms of line thickness variation. Any advice on this?
