Welcome to drawabox, and congrats on completing Lesson 1. I’ll be taking a look at it for you.

Starting with your superimposed lines, these are nicely done. They’re smooth, properly lined up at the start, and of a consistent trajectory. I do suspect that you might be drawing a few of them – the longer ones, especially – a little fast, so do be sure to experiment with your speed, and settle for one that gives you the most accurate, still-confident lines. The ghosted lines/planes look quite confident, too, but you’ve forgotten one of the two non-diagonal center lines in each plane. Recall that a plane has 8 lines – 4 inner, 4 outer.

Onto the ellipse section, the table of ellipses exercise looks good, if perhaps a little stiff. I’ll quickly remind you that your priority is (should be) for your ellipses to be smooth, rounded, and properly drawn through, even if that comes at the cost of them not fitting snuggly inside of their frames, or their rotations not matching up. Under no circumstances should you do the opposite – this is to say, prioritize that accuracy, at the cost of confidence. The ellipses in planes exercise certainly struggles with this, but looks a lot better in page 2. Continue pushing in that direction! The ellipses in the funnels exercise are a little wobbly, too, though I suspect that this is due to their size, just as much as it is due to your priorities. As you know, the smaller a mark is, the harder it is to engage the shoulder for it, so see if you can draw your funnels a little bigger next time.

As for the box section, the plotted perspective exercise looks clean. The rough perspective exercise is nicely done, also. The convergences start off strong, and show some nice improvement over the set. The linework here feels a little quick, also, though I don’t know if you’re doing that on purpose, or if you were just eager to finish and slightly rushed it. If the former, see what I said about your superimposed lines. Confidence doesn’t necessarily equal speed, you see. The rotated boxes exercise shows a solid attempt. The rotation itself is a little slight, but you’ve done your best to keep your boxes snug, and they’re generally well constructed. It’s a little hard to tell what’s going on (your hatching lines aren’t tight enough to properly clean things up, and the whole thing is a little small), but you’ve done well, overall. Finally, the organic perspective exercise looks good. I don’t necessarily love the overshooting, so I’ll recommend working on that in your box challenge, but the boxes look good, and flow well, as a result of their size and foreshortening. Nicely done!
