Hi! Here are my 250 boxes for the challenge. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone would take the time to go over them and comment even if it's something short! Feel free to roast me!

Just a quick comment, it took me 3 months to finish this challenge, I was doing 10 boxes per day but lost many days of work because I was getting a lot of migraines that have lasted 1 to 4 days, so took me longer to finish, but I did it!:D

Hello EIJIH_!

Congratulations on getting this far! This challenge is not easy, so you should be proud that you pulled it off, good job!

Also thanks for taking the time to review my 250 box challenge too! Really appreciate it.

Now, onto the critique:

Box 1-100:

I feel like the convergence on most of these lines are very close to parallel and as such the lines aren't converging into the VP. For readability it is also good to go through the outer lines of the box with another confident and ghosted line to make it read even better. I also feel like some lines are overshot or gone through more than once. I did/do this as well but it is important to remind yourself to let mistakes be mistakes and not try to correct them. However, it should be noted that this is an impressive and promising start to the challenge. Also a lot of these problems got addressed over time and it seems you realized most of these mistakes yourself within the first 100.

Box 101-250:

Pretty much everything from the previous critique has been addressed or worked towards being addressed. However, there are still a few small points to point out. I am unsure if you are going over the outer lines one extra time for readability, this is because sometimes it seems unevenly applied, like at box 247 it looks like it is applied everywhere except the bottom left line (closest to the viewer) . Otherwise it seems you are moving in the right direction and you've made very good progress going through these boxes! Amazing job!

Drawing even one box takes deceivingly long and sure can be hard to plan into your day. Keep up the good work legend!

Have a fantastic day and thank you again for giving critique on my box challenge too :) See you in Lesson 2!

Next Steps:

Keep doing what you're doing, you have noticed your own mistakes and I can see that you are working towards addressing them. Do not forget to go over the outer lines one extra time for readability and keep practicing ghost and taking your time with each line

Hello Tobbe!

Thank you so so much for taking the time to analyze my work and write a critique! Really appreciate it! :D

I totally get what you mean, I did kinda feel like the convergences in some boxes weren't enough, thanks for pointing it out!

I think I was mostly having trouble with adding thickness (to reinforce the form) in the outer part of my boxes. When I ghost through them and execute, I still miss, so gotta keep working on that!

Again, thank you so much for writing this out! truly appreciate it!

Have a great day and good luck with Lesson 2! We can do this!

Hey Eijih_,

Thanks a lot for reviewing my submission. I will gladly do the same for yours, even though I hope we both also get some feedback from people further into the course.

I will try to underline my comments with some relevant example boxes from your submission, which I will add as numbers in brackets.

I see some boxes in your first half that have clearly diverging lines, by which I don't mean a single line that is off, but an entire set of 4 lines that are parallel or diverging towards the distance (4, 23, 36, 63). For the most part you have eliminated these later on, so good job on correcting that. :)

Something I notice about your lines (which is more of a lesson 1 topic, but still relevant here), is that there are many lines that do not connect to the corner because they stop short of it. This is something that's persistent throughout the submission (from 2, 9, 19, 20, 46, 64 to 218, 219, 224, 247). In particular your outer lines with added line weight often have one of the two lines stopping short (228, 236, 247), which is very noticeable. I think the core instruction from lesson 1 is that overshooting is fine (and even expected at first), but undershooting is not. Your lines are very straight, so I can tell that you draw them with confidence, now just make sure to never stop short of the target.

Other than that I think you did very well. You followed the instructions and drew a variety of boxes of different shapes, so from my perspective (as someone who just completed the same exercise) you should be cleared to continue.

Good luck!

Continue with lesson 2

The Science of Deciding What You Should Draw

The Science of Deciding What You Should Draw

Right from when students hit the 50% rule early on in Lesson 0, they ask the same question - "What am I supposed to draw?"

It's not magic. We're made to think that when someone just whips off interesting things to draw, that they're gifted in a way that we are not. The problem isn't that we don't have ideas - it's that the ideas we have are so vague, they feel like nothing at all. In this course, we're going to look at how we can explore, pursue, and develop those fuzzy notions into something more concrete.
