Yeah, this is a pretty good structure from what I've heard.

Perhaps we can do it together? You know, make each other accountable or something like that.

It is a pretty comprehensive list of resources you can study. But the order and the timeline they suggest is not really all that good.

Case in point: they suggest doing DrawABox lessons 0-3 in a month basically. Also they put figure drawing and proko before DrawABox, when it should probably be backwards.

The creator accepted that it's not really doable in the time suggested and you are supposed to repeat the curriculum a few times to continue with the stuff you could not complete in the first run.

Hello Yoyobuae, Do you still have that list? Right now, this reddit thread isn't available.

Thanks,

Hey, Tylerkoh. I'm interested in at least discussing what a study group would look like. Even if that list you linked to isn't a realistic timeline for mastery, it might be a good place to figure out what is possible to improve.

I submitted a question a few months ago asking about an art accountability buddy or study group. I never followed up on that because I'm not sure what an accountability practice would be online. In-person, if I tell someone I am going to the gym with them and never show, I have to deal with that person in IRL. Online, it's easy to not do something because we are mostly a bunch of strangers. I know our main motivation will be our determination to improve, but a little social pressure never hurts either.

Sorry for the slow update, I think I've burnt out a bit due to doing too much exercise in a short amount of time. However, I am back now, haha. So you want discord id or deviant art or something?

Sorry I missed this! I'm just now getting back to the Draw a Box exercises myself. I spent a long time looking through all the programs listed on that Solo Artist sheet and I think it's a bit overwhelming. Lots of good info though. I'll be checking out some of the courses on that list, but I don't think I could follow it like a per semester curriculum.

I've even printed the curriculum about a week ago, really liked it, it seems so scructural.

As mentioned already, though, I think some units are barely manageable. For myself, I've decided I'll be referencing it for additional resources and the structure itself, but would probably spend more time on some units and less on others. I'm think of starting in June with it. I'm on lesson 5 DAB, so I'll probably be spending June and July on Proko figure drawing intead of unit 2 (lessons 0-3 DAB). And working on lesson 5, cylinder challenge and further lessons DAB in parallel.

In general, I have a feeling it would be more beneficial to go slower then the author suggests, at least on the first third/half of the curriculum. And take in everything that's there on those basic concepts. Like I think I'd rather practice figure drawing more and then probably a solid figure drawing basis can help me go through stuff like torso/arms/legs anatomy or clothed figure drawing quicker/ with a bit less effort.

pretty small community and new.

The recommendation below is an advertisement. Most of the links here are part of Amazon's affiliate program (unless otherwise stated), which helps support this website. It's also more than that - it's a hand-picked recommendation of something I've used myself. If you're interested, here is a full list.
Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens

Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
