Lesson 1: Lines, Ellipses and Boxes
11:00 PM, Saturday April 11th 2020
First few drawings were done with a .45 pen before switching to a .5 pen
Superimposing lines: there's fraying on both ends, do not be impatient to align pen precicely where you need
Ghosting: OK
Planes: mostly OK, though it seems you started to give priority for hitting the points instead of confident even line, accuracy will come with practive you should focus on steady lines first
Ellipses table: mostly OK, though they are kinda bumpy
Ellipses planes: mostly OK, you should go over ellipse atleast 1.5 times, now it looks like it ends suddenly in akward way
Funnels: OK
Ruler perspective: OK
Free hand perspective: OK
Organic boxes: OK
Next Steps:
1 page of superimposing lines (include some S and C curves too)
1 page of ellipses in planes
Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.
The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
