Lesson 1: Lines, Ellipses and Boxes
8:17 PM, Monday July 6th 2020
I gave it my best shot!
Overall you did a great job!
Your lines are wobbly sometimes, so try to make sure you are sitting correctly by your desk, have a good posture and draw from your shoulder. Ellipses are drawn very confidently, but they aren't always correct, so you should try to ghost them more before drawing. But still having a confident line is better than an accurate one, so again, good job :)
Mainly i see problems with rotated boxes, but that is a hard task so it's okay. Here are my suggestions:
1) The boxes in the corners look weird (the ones that are on a lines that divide each quarter. I hope that makes sense) . You should be able to see a front plane and not so much of side planes, and they also don't seem close enough to the other boxes.
2) The other thing is that you didn't put hatching in some places where it should be seen. Like, some spaces between boxes don't have hatching, but there should be, cause you can see the plane of a nearby box.
Also you forgot to submit the ghosted planes without ellipses, but i'll still mark is as complete cause you can still see how they turned out in the other exercise. So congrads on finishing the lesson and proceed to the 250 boxes!
Next Steps:
250 boxes
Thanks for the feedback! very helpful :)
Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.
The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
