HI VEGA,

I've checked your submission!

As I was going to the deepness of lesson 1 submissions I stumble upon yours, and it's a pity you didn't got a response yet!

Though the reason behind it it's simple, it's your own webdomain. Don't get me wrong, I'm very impressed aabout what you pulled with that, I don't even understand it! But, there is a reason why people just use imgur for their submissions, it just let's you scrolled freely through all the lesson, making it easier for the one reviewing. I don't want you to discourage you from doing webdomains, it looks good, though for Draw a Box just use imgur so it's easier for the reviewer to check the lesson out.

(unless you just code a way to make all the images so you can just scroll down, that seems like a crazy coding project xd)

Now, let's get into the real business!

When it comes to your straight lines, they look great! There is something that you will have to drill into your brain when it comes to DaB; confidence>accuracy. When it comes to lines, you should put your effort on them looking confident, it doesnt matter if they overshoot or that they don't meet the objective, as that gets better with practice, the most important thing is accuracy. And you are doing it great! Just remember that you just started and that if you put the effort and time, it will pay off!

However, when looking at your ellipses, I don't get the same feeling of confidence I get from seeing your straight lines, or your boxes. This is normal. It really happens to everyone. Ellipses are scary, that's why you gotta do the ghosting method, and when the confidence strikes, you make the mark! Though I think that a reason why some of your ellipses are looking wobbly it's because of their size and you doing them from your shoulder. I always recomend making the best of every exercise, however, don't take to the other extreme! Fill the page, but with objects of reasonable size.

On the same note, I see that most of the time you are going through them 3 times. I supposed that you are doing this to make them look cleaner. I don't recomend you doing this. You should go through them only two times as it says in the lessons, the reasons it's only two it's for you two make up for some of the ellipse mess on the second pass. But when you do more than 2 pass, it actually get's messier!

Now that I've finished the review I just beg you to , or improve your webdomain to have a scroll sistem, or just use imgur for DaB. I don't tell you this only because of me, it's more for you, lesson 1 submissions get reviewed pretty quickly if they are done right, and yours is really good! But the fact that it has that system that you have to individually click on them makes them really hard to review. I just don't want you to be waiting for one month in every lesson, specially seeing all the enthusiasm in your exercises!

I'm gonna mark this lesson as complete, just keep going for the 250 box challenge and let's hope someone agrees with this review so you get your badge!

Next Steps:

Okay, now comes the 250 box challenge, this one it's all about determination and constancy. Try to do them in a regular basis, if you can do them daily, go for it!

Remember to use the whole page, but don't try to fit the 250 in just one page, I recommend 5 boxes per page, and remember I said use the whole page, not fill, there is a difference.

Also do warm ups every single time you are gonna sit down to do some boxes, because it will help you out with your confidence!

Best of lucks my friend!

Hello Weijak, thank you for the feedback. =)

I agree with your assessment on my ellipses - after I did those exercises I realized those were a weak spot I needed to practice on. Since then, I've been doing tables of ellipses for every warmup, and drawing through them only twice. I think my confidence with them has improved, especially after reducing the draw-through. I'll keep doing ellipses for warmup.

And that's a good observation about linking my webpage, thank you! I really dislike Imgur and refuse to use it :P but next time I'll put my work on Google Drive or make a scrollable gallery for future DaB homework.

Thanks again for your kind words and taking the time to write feedback for me!

First of all, my pleasure

I'm glad that you have been practicing and you became aware of your weakness!

Keep it up!

The Art of Blizzard Entertainment

While I have a massive library of non-instructional art books I've collected over the years, there's only a handful that are actually important to me. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment. My back's been sore for a week.

The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
