Clarification on grinding

I assume that grinding to perfection implies that you already avoid the common mistakes listed on the homework pages and that you are grinding for the purpose of getting better at the exercises. Though, if your work has many common mistakes that could easily be corrected by reading the homework pages, or in the case that you misread the instructions and did not fulfill the intended purposes of the exercises, would that warrant a restart?
I have already finished an exercise and reading the instructions again I have realized that I have not followed them precisely; should I redo it?
Furthermore, I see that previous homework of mine still has space for more work and I was wondering if filling this space out would constitute as grinding as well.
