Could you give me an advice? I found, that I can't control line thickness. the only way I can do it is by drawing line faster or slower. Because of that, my short lines are thick, long one are thin.

Thanks for reviewing.

Hi Ponatosik!

Your lines are pretty good as far as the 'lines' part of the lesson: they are confident and none are repeating. One thing I will mention about your lines in the ghosted lines assignment is that I noticed that a few lines were arching slightly. All you have to do to fix it is to consciously arch the line in the opposite direction. Another thing is that some lines were either extending past its destination or failing to reach it. A fix for this would be when you are drawing the line, simply lift the pen off the paper when you get to point B.

For the ellipses, they should be drawn with confidence and stay within the boundaries that are defined when you start (whether it be the planes or the tables exercise). In each of the assignments mentioned previously — as well as the funnels exercise — the ellipses are drawn confidently, but fail to align with the boundaries given. In the Ellipses in Planes exercise specifically, the ellipses for some of the planes don't touch all of the corners.

Lastly, there are boxes; for the rough perspective assignment, the lines for the plane need to be parallel and perpendicular to the horizon line (which you didn't have much of a problem with overall). You have a few problems with perspective in the Organic Perspective exercise, but that's something you'll work on more in the 250 box challenge.

I hope that this helped!

(P.S. As someone who is heavy handed, I also have trouble with line weight, especially with ink/felt tip pens. My advice would be to either change how you hold your utensil or to move your hand back farther on the pen so that your hand isn't so close to the nib. And remember to draw the lines confidently!)

Next Steps:

For the Rotated Boxes, I would suggest doing it again, as I feel I can't critique it the way it is currently (I'm having a hard time trying to tell each individual box apart.).

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Heya! Gald to know my advice helped(I'm pretty new to critique in general)!

It's definitely easier for me to see this time around, and looking at it, it looks like you understand the point of the exercise, which is seeing how boxes rotate in space and how they relate to each other. Well done!

Next Steps:

250 Boxes Challenge

You're clear to move on to the 250 Boxes Challenge, which will give you more practice with perspective, and train your eyes to see your mistakes more clearly.

Color and Light by James Gurney

Color and Light by James Gurney

Some of you may remember James Gurney's breathtaking work in the Dinotopia series. This is easily my favourite book on the topic of colour and light, and comes highly recommended by any artist worth their salt. While it speaks from the perspective of a traditional painter, the information in this book is invaluable for work in any medium.
