hi J159! i'm Koyomi and i'm going to review your lesson 1 submission.

1.Lines

-i honestly don’t need to say much about the lines section, your lines are quite good, they are confident and i really see that you’re using your arm. There might be some wobbles here and there and it will get better with time and practice. but i think you got this so good job!

2.Ellipses

-on your tables of ellipses, some ellipses are overlapping each other and some are not touching with the others. It seems to me that you noticed that and tried to correct it in your second page so props for that!

-in the funnels exercise, some ellipses are not centered with the minor axis and you tend to draw ellipses outside of your funnels, don’t go this far even if the line continue try to keep them in

3.boxes

-you’re repeating some lines on the rough perspective exercise, no matter how off a line is try to keep it as if it were correct and move on

-on the rotating boxes exercise some boxes aren’t rotating like in this exemple: https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/d73eea49.jpg (especially the two middle left ones)

Hey Koyomi, thank you so much for your critique! You're right; I did repeat lines for the box exercises. I've noticed that this section required shorter strokes (aka dividing the page in 3) but I'm having difficulties drawing short strokes with my shoulder, so sometimes I defaulted to my elbow/wrist. The box section in particular was pretty wobbly.

Thanks again and I'll keep note of your notes! (also I wanna rate your critique as max stars but I understand 2 others have to agree first, so I'll wait til other members of the community rate your critique so it doesn't get mixed up with mine) (at least I think that's how it works...)

no problem! and about the community agreement, not much people actually take the time to do that unfortunately but you could ask for agreements on the discord server

and i think you can move on without agreements (... i think)

Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.

The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
