Okay, there’s definitely some improvement here. I can clearly see that you’ve started with a central flow line and two simple curves for the sides of your leaf in every case, and on most of them it looks like you made a good attempt at having them connect together. I’ve done a mark up on your work here https://imgur.com/a/6qI9lSb in red are some areas where you’re still leaving arbitrary gaps between your marks (and one where you did much better, marked with a tick and “good” well done) Accuracy will improve with mindful practice, so that’s just something to keep working on as you go forward.

Marked in blue are a couple of notes on edge detail. One place where you did great, and another where there is room for improvement. Here’s another diagram from Comfy showing how to build edge detail in stages using simple marks, which may help you. https://imgur.com/MXCZGDy

Marked in orange are 3 places where you went off the page. I’ve already spoken at length why it is better to keep your forms contained on the page and discussed strategies to help you control your marks. If you didn’t understand, please let me know and I will try to explain another way.

This is a big improvement from your first page of leaves, and while there’s still things to work on I think you will learn more by moving on to lesson 4, so I’ll go ahead and mark this as complete. Good luck with your exams.

Next Steps:

Feel free to move on to lesson 4

thank you. l'd like to ask something. I don't know if it's just me but when you are mindful of something it's really hard for me to keep it consistent. so, any tips on remembering certain principals when drawing??

Hi, no problem.

I'm not sure if you're talking about finding it hard to remember all the information you have been given, or finding it hard to stay focused while you work on these exercises, so I'll try to answer both.

For remembering key points, things to remember, things to work on etc, I find it helps to take notes. We're more likely to remember things if we write them down in out own words, so when you read/watch a new exercise, write down what you need to do, likewise when you get feedback, write down the key points. When I was working through this course I had a note pinned to my wall that said "Confidence > Accuracy" because I had a chronic problem with hesitating and wobbly lines. With the note right in front of me, I couldn't forget. You have great line confidence, so that's not the note for you, but I found writing things down and putting them where I could see them helped a lot.

For staying focussed while you draw, I'd suggest first check you're working on these exercises in an environment without distractions. Don't have the tv on in the background, and put your phone out of reach etc. Then if you're working on an exercise and realize you've zoned out and are thinking about your dinner or something, stop. Assess if you can regain your focus, or if you need to take a break. These exercises are demanding, and it's normal to only be able to focus on actively learning for short periods of time, so take breaks if you need to. There's no need to complete a page in a single sitting, take as long as you need.

I don't know if I fully understood your question, and as it's quite a general one, it may be worth asking it again in one of the general channels on the DAB discord. Other students may be able to provide you with more answers, or things that may be more helpful to you personally. Good luck.

A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.

In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
