250 Box Challenge
3:09 AM, Tuesday September 30th 2025
I added more boxes a page to save paper, but ill refrain from doing this in further lessons.
you struggled with getting the lines to converge properly the entire challenge, which is completely fine, you aren't alone.
Are you using the Y method? it is the best way to draw boxes at this stage, since it allows you to grasp all of the box's dimensions at once.
Also, it looks like you would have benefited from reviewing the instructions, since sometimes you forget to follow guidelines such as "keep the y's arms at angles greater than 90 degree else the box will look weird."
Your lines are confident.
A common issue (seen on boxes no. 41 and 48( is that you will have two lines with shallow convergence coupled by an extremely step line.
Also, you should extend the lines as far on the page as possible, this will make your mistakes much more visible.
The lines also diverge from time to time.
also, the first firty don't have vanishing points
Next Steps:
repeat the first 50 and do 50 more of the "last 150", remember to follow what I said.
Some of you may remember James Gurney's breathtaking work in the Dinotopia series. This is easily my favourite book on the topic of colour and light, and comes highly recommended by any artist worth their salt. While it speaks from the perspective of a traditional painter, the information in this book is invaluable for work in any medium.
