Lines

As I can see, your lines are confident and clean!

Ellipses

The ellipses are great too! Nothing to add here.

Perspective

I think they need some work, specially the rough perspective excercise. The lines are wobbly (I have the same problem by the way)

In best regards

Lemms

Next Steps:

I would recommend doing 1 warmup page and 1 rough perspective page immediately after. This is to train your line confidence for drawing in perspective :)

Hey, thank you for the feedback! I didn't do many warmups and I think that's where my issue lies aswell as not fully understanding perspective.

Here is m redo, I think I've improved. I see my lines are straighter and I think I'm getting the hang of Perspective but my accuracy could be a little better.

Hello, I'll be reviewing your work, hope it will be helpful to you

I think the majority of the homework looks good! I think you did a good job. I say this for your lines, ellipses and some of your boxes. You did a great job with the ellipses indeed. They look confident and fit in well. You can keep doing these for warmups, they're great for loosening up.

Dont worry too much about accuracy, that will come with time.

A helpful tip I can provide you for making the lines for constructing boxes is to lock your writs and ghost them before putting them down. Always apply what you learned from previous assignments to what you are doing, they are all connected and build on top of each other.

Remember to turn the page to whats most comfortable for the natural angle of your hand. And then draw from the shoulder, like how you did the ghosted lines and planes.

Now for the rotated boxes, I can see that you didnt really understand this exercise very well. And I think you had a lot of trouble as result. I'll do my best to help guide you. I'm not expecting anything even near close to perfect but I do expect some key notes.

One, look at the assignment homework example, https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/rotatedboxes. In it you'll see that the very back of the boxes is aligned to one another, while in yours, there is little to no alignment. Use the very center box as your anchor to make the boxes next to it.

The reason yours seem to have no structure, meaning some are bigger than the ones next to it, some are smaller etc is because you are not using the center box as a guide to make the other boxes. Besides the very back of these boxes, the height of each box next to the center box is inconsistent. They have to kind of curve as they're turning away, Use the center box to make the box next to it, and use that newly made box as a guide for your next one, while keeping in mind to turn it more and more by moving an imaginary vanishing point.

When turning: Lets say you're making the centerbox, and you go make the box on the left, move the vp for the centerbox along the right side and imagine the lines going there. It will help turn it more.

And now think of the rotated boxes as having a row of five. Yours is also inconsistent here. Slow down and really look at the homework. You're missing the boxes on the farthest edges.

In the Discord lesson one channel, in the pinned messages, there is guide on rotated boxes. I'll add that here in case my explanations arent enough. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/368870697742630912/715669112222908466/zfr3o7xneog31.png

Next Steps:

You'll have to redo the rotated boxes, but dont stress, you'll definitely get it. The rest of your homework looks great and this is the only thing you're having some trouble with. Check out the discord for Lesson one and ask for more help if this wasnt enough for you. I want to make sure this exercise is something you can understand because it helps you navigate 3d space better when you do. I check back here everyday so I'll mark it as complete ASAP once you resubmit. Most of all, take your time, and do it slowly, and bigger. It helps to see what you're doing wrong if you do it bigger.

Thank you so much for the feedback, I will make another rotated box once I've had some rest and time to warm up.

So far, I find everything you've said to be helpful. I forgot the vp changes for every box, I have a hard time seeing the imaginary vp move xD and i also forget I can rotate the page.

I can't wait to work more on this homework and improve my skills :]

Hello! Good job on redoing it and its much neater now! I see that you did turn the boxes as best as you could, the very farthest boxes arent turned around enough tho so do keep that in mind and revisit someday if you can. I dont want you to redo this since the rest of your homework looks fine. I would redline it for you if I could but Im currently not at my computer. If you can find me on discord I can send you a pic of what to work on further. Is your username the same?

Do keep in mind to show every 50 or so boxes in your next challenge in the discord basic challenges channel! Nothings worse than making boxes wrong for the whole challenge. Let them help you guide you in the right direction. Best of luck on the 250 boxes!

This community member feels the lesson should be marked as complete, and 2 others agree. The student has earned their completion badge for this lesson and should feel confident in moving onto the next lesson.

Thank you so much, rotated boxes is difficult but I do find it fun xD

My username on discord is not the same but I can try to find you there and send a message/request.

Thank you for all the help so far

Edit: I figured out how to change my server name so it's also Shypenguin in the server but just in case my username is Darcie#6366

Color and Light by James Gurney

Color and Light by James Gurney

Some of you may remember James Gurney's breathtaking work in the Dinotopia series. This is easily my favourite book on the topic of colour and light, and comes highly recommended by any artist worth their salt. While it speaks from the perspective of a traditional painter, the information in this book is invaluable for work in any medium.
