I've been a cave gremlin and working in isolation up until this point, against all the advice on the Drawabox site. So, it's about time I come out of hiding and atone for my sins. XD

Included in the submission are my lesson 1 assignments, which I completed last year. I've also added two extra pages, which I completed recently, to show some of the progress I've made since.

Okay I will be reviewing your work.

  1. Superimposed lines: Very strong understanding, I see no wobbles or any of the other mistakes mentioned in the lesson to avoid. I would have liked to see a few more curved lines but after seeing the aditional page (Which for the future only do the required pages said to do), there is no dobut in my mind you understood what was asked. Excellent.

  2. Most of your ghosting lines are good. The small thing I will point out is that the two lines beign very long it seems you might have drawn from the elbow instead of the shoulder. That causes both of them to slightly arch, which we want to avoid. While it's true not all your lines meet up with their dot, most do and are very solid. So because of how small these things are I would say you understand what was asked in the assignment.

  3. No complaints with Ghosted planes. Solid line work, very clear understanding.

  4. Table of Elipses; Really great to see that curved line and how your elipses are fitting and touching well.

  5. Elipses in planes: I do see a few broke out of their boundries but that is okay, I have trouble too. Most of them are in their planes and touching all ends. You do have a blank one though where it's just a plane. My only advice is make sure you double check your work to make sure it's all finished. This double check will come in handy in future hw/challanges.

  6. Funnels: Well done; the line is clearly divding up your elipses in half and none are breaking out of their boundries. But I'm not sure why in the corner you drew what looks to me an odd type of corner funnel which isn't required as far as I know.

  7. Plotted perspective: Beatiful line work and boxes but your vanshing point is out of bounds of the boxes. But because everything is good, I will just say be careful when figuring out the vanishing point, especially with what comes next.

  8. Rough Perspective: Really good here, as most are close to teh dot vanishing point but not making to it like in the directions. A few I feel are going to be tougher angles and that's okay; some are for me too.

  9. Rotated Boxes: My god; I am just floored with how beatiful and wonderful this turned out. Excellent job on this.

  10. Organic Perspective: Overall I can see a clear undertanding of the assingment. Well done.

Final thoughts: It is clear from these you not only have a very solid understanding, you were working very calmly, and taking the advice which has produced fantastic results. I beleive you are ready for the box challange. I will warn ahead that it's called a challagne for a reason; it's hard. However I belive you can do it, just remain calm and focus, get as much advice as you can, really study on the difference and abserve the differences with shallow and dramatic boxes and you will do well.

Next Steps:

Move onto 250 box challange.

Thank you very much for your critique!

As for the strange corner funnel, it used to be an official but optional part of the assignment. However, I just saw that the article and example have been updated since, and it no longer includes the corner funnel.

Yeah I was made aware and you're welcome. Good luck on box challange again.

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
