Lesson 1: Lines, Ellipses and Boxes
7:10 PM, Tuesday June 14th 2022
Greetings from Peru
Hi Xyklope,
Before starting I just wanted to note that I'm just a beginner myself so please bear with me. Let's get started with your revision then.
Superimposed Lines
The lines appear to be stroked with confidence and don't have to much wobbling. There are a couple lines that are fraying on both ends so try to prepare a little more your strokes to avoid this situation.
Ghosted Lines
The lines are still drawn with confidence and have very little bit of wooble. Great job!
Ghosted Planes
Very good work! The lines are confident, don't have much wobbling and show a good use of all the previous techniques.
Tables of Ellipses
Impressive job! Nothing much to say, you applied all the lesson's teachings and built some really nice ellipses. In the future try changing the degree of your ellipses and also play with their angle to challenge yourself on different shapes and positions.
Ellipses in Planes
Again, another good job! You clearly know how to create some confident drawn ellipses. One little note is that at times some ellipses don't touch the four edges of the plane so try to the ghosting method more in the future.
Funnels
The ellipses are corretly aligned to the minor axis, are snugled together and don't stray from the funnel. Good job!
Plotted Perspective
Good work!
Rough Perspective
The boxes are built well (good use of the ghosting method) and the depth lines show that you made a good job on maintaining the one point perspective and correctly placing each lines.
Rotated Boxes
Like the lesson already warned this is a very difficoult assignment. Overall, thought, you made a good job: the lines are confident without too much wobbling, you draw through your boxes form and tried your best to use your surroundings to best place the boxes. The cubes closer to the corners are the weirdest ones but it still show that you attempted to rotate them. In the future try to increse the degree of the rotation of the final boxes.
Organic Perspective
Good job! Most of the boxes follow the line you made initially and you have correctly conveyed the depth of scene. Remember to keep using the ghosting method since I noticed the lines here are bit rougher compared from the ones the assignments before.
We are done and congratulations on finishing the first lesson. Keep up with the good work!!
Next Steps:
Just remember to keep using the ghosting method so to draw confident and clear strokes. Good luck on the 250 box challenge!!
Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.
Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
