for the first few homeworks i used a ballLiner pen since the drawing pens i ordered are still being delivered and i just wanted to start drawabox while i'm on holiday, starting from the boxes i then used a ballpoint. i hope this is fine i just wanted to start the course drawing before my holiday ended.

if i did a lot of mistakes should i still move on or should i redo the lesson? i'm afraid that that would be grinding

Hello there congrats on finishing lesson one,

"if i did a lot of mistakes should i still move on or should i redo the lesson? i'm afraid that would be grinding" - at this point the important thing is that you grasp what the lesson is trying to teach and what exactly you are aiming towards, you will use these exercises as warm ups which will be plenty time to improve.

Lines

The superimposed lines look confident, I only see fraying on the ends which is great. Ghosted lines look confident but some have changes in trajectory. You should ghost the line until you are confident with the motion. Then place the pen on the starting dot and move it towards the end in that ghosted motion.

Ellipses

The ellipses look nice and confident, I see in the funnels some ellipses that are not drawn through. All ellipses should be drawn through at least twice (recommended) and a maximum thrice.

Ghost your ellipses where you want to draw them, then once confident with the motion, execute the ellipse with the same confidence you are using now. This applies to small and narrow ellipses.

The funnels should be touching, there should be no gaps. They must be touching the walls of the arcs of the funnels and not overlapping them. There are also ellipses that are not confidently drawn here too.

Boxes

Plotted perspective looks solid, Use a ruler for the cross-hatching in this exercise. Add some line weight to the silhouette of the boxes, and where boxes overlap to show dominance. Rough perspective looks good, keep in mind that the vertical lines of the boxes are perpendicular to the horizon and the horizontal lines are parallel to the horizon. This will help you plot your lines.

The rotated boxes look good, just some messy cross-hatching.

Organic perspective looks good, consider adding some line weight.

You can head over to the 250 box challenge , good luck :)

It's also more than that - it's a hand-picked recommendation of something I've used myself. If you're interested, here is a full list.

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
