hello, this is my homework.

If I need to make improvements, do I have to make a new homework post or do I simply post below with my updated work?

Hi Lumpyhands! It looks like you did good job on the lesson, though there is some issues I wanna draw your attention to.

Starting out by your lines, it looks like you are doing a great job making them as confident as you can while also being pretty accurate. Remember to always apply the ghosting method and put your focus on making a confident and even line over anything else!

Moving on to your ellipses, It really shows you are striving to make them as confident as you can, in a few cases I can see that you are going through them more than two times. Remember that the recommended amount is only two for the simple reason that more than this makes everything more messy!

Another thing, in you funnels exercise, you are not really aligning your ellipses to their minor axis. Remember, that ellipses are cut perfectly) even in half by their minor axis, always strive for doing this as best as you can.

Next up, boxes; The main issue that I saw on this section of your lesson was actually your line quality, so we are gonna go over some mistakes you made an how to correct them!

  • In your rough perspective I'm seeing that your lines are looking wobbly, this is normal- When people get to this stage of the lesson, their focus changes from maintaining a good line quality to making boxes. Try to face every line as it is a ghosted line exercise, without taking into account if it's part of a box, a pyramid or whatever. Remember that if you can make confident looking lines, you can make confident looking boxes.

  • Also, in this exercises the width lines are supposed to be parallel to the horizon, and the height lines perpendicular; you can put down the two points for making a line and checking if they accomplish this qualities, before doing the actual line!

  • In your Rotated boxes, you were not supposed to check the convergence of your boxes, so it ended up being a whole mess, try to read the instructions more carefully next time. Other than that you made a good job on this exercise.

  • One common issue that I'm seeing in both your organic perspective and rotated boxes is that you are correcting your lines with more lines and end up making a mess. Try to fight this urge, remember that all we can do for a line to look confident and even, is before the actual line in the ghosting method. That's why you will hear people insist so much on this (especially on earlier lessons), because our focus right now is to make confident lines over anything else.

I'm gonna mark this lesson as completed! Keep it up.

The Art of Blizzard Entertainment

While I have a massive library of non-instructional art books I've collected over the years, there's only a handful that are actually important to me. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment. My back's been sore for a week.

The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
