Post with 9 views. Lesson 1: Ghosted Planes

Just recently finished the 3rd exercise for Lesson 1! While I think it looks fair, I feel that I didn't do as decent as I thought, especially on some of the lines. Should I go ahead and practice again from the start?

Hiya! So, if it's not too much trouble, I'd prefer each page to be one picture, next time. In regards to the submission itself, it looks really good! Just be careful that the non-diagonal center lines of the plane go through said plane's center point (the intersection of its diagonal center lines.)

To answer your question, no don't start again. The idea of the exercises isn't to get them perfect, or even good first time. It's to introduce you to the ideas and skills involved with them. Instead, do 2-3 of exercises you have completed in a 10-15 minute warm up. That way you can improve on them without grinding and burning yourself out.

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
