Again, it took me longer to complete this challenge after a few months and avoid grinding it. I'm hoping that this goes better than it did the last time.

I'm eager to read your comments and criticisms. Please take into consideration my sincere gratitude.

I'll be critiquing your 250 box challenge

The biggest thing you're struggling with is you are making divergences on ATLEAST one axis of your boxes. When making boxes, you want to always make sure they're going TOWARDS the vanashing point, not the oppoisite direction away. You can refer to This image, and This image if you need help understanding how to think about your convergences in space.

Secondly you need to come up with more Foreshortening in your boxes. Now what I mean by this is that MOST of your boxes are basically shallow. You should be trying to play with the perspective more, that goes for your initial Y orientation. You're allowed (and quite frankly encouraged) to make one branch shorter than the other, two of them longer than one, and so on. Here is a chart of all the different possible orientations of boxes. Don't directly copy them, but use them as inspiration to see how you can vary up your orientations. Alternatively this website allows you to randomly generate a Y orientation. Either way, the main thing you should be doing is vary up your orientation.

Other than those you're on a very good track with your boxes. You made marks with confidence, you followed the instructions, MOST of your lines converge despite the problem areas, and you pushed through all the way to the end of the challenge. Most people drop off here, so congrats on making it this far.

Lesson 2

Make sure to add boxes to your pool of warmups, they're a very important tool to the rest of your learning

Hello, thank you for taking the time to critique my work! I'm very grateful for them.

In all honesty, I would say that I felt extremely guilty about most of the things you mentioned. When I outline them, I have a hard time getting them to converge because I assumed they would be fine when I was ghosting. I appreciate the notes and references; I'll try to apply them.

With the foreshadowing, I suppose I was hesitant to approach them from a different angle. As a result, even when I attempted, I ended up taking the same position as before, which is why they started to seem a little repetitive. I have some difficulty executing these, which is why they appear shallow.

Thank you again for your comments. I was very glad that I was able to do it, and I took more time than I had with previous assignments. Also, I'm sorry if this response is delayed; I forgot checking my notifications.

The recommendation below is an advertisement. Most of the links here are part of Amazon's affiliate program (unless otherwise stated), which helps support this website. It's also more than that - it's a hand-picked recommendation of something I've used myself. If you're interested, here is a full list.

A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.

In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
