So I was thinking about redoing all of the assigments for this lesson because I dont feel comfortable with how they turned out to be. But here it is! Also I think I'll draw a couple more plants before moving on.

Hello there, congrats on making it through! I'll be looking over your work.

Also, thank you for not redoing the lesson. It's always better to just upload whatever you've got rather than grinding.

Starting with your arrows, they are drawn fairly confidently and they flow through the scene fluidly. Try to compress the spaces between zig zags of the arrows in order to make them look like they extend further back though. Also, it seems that you shaded the wrong side of some arrows that you drew. Always try to mindful of how those arrows sit in 3D space.

Continuing onto your leaves exercise, you really did a great job here. Your leaves really flow through the scene and you experimented with more complex structures.

Branches look pretty solid as well. Your extensions generally taper pretty well with the next line. Next time, try playing with the degrees of your ellipses inside the branch to create a more solid illusion of depth though.

Onto your plant constructions, your first pages seem pretty rushed through. However, I can see that you started to focus more on construction throughout the lesson. You started to build in stages and maintain solidity through each step of the process. Your use of line weight / shading is pretty good as well but in some of your plants (especially sansevieria), you seem to focus more on shapes rather than cast shadows when applying texture. You can take a look at this demo for help with using cast shadows for texture.

Overall, even though your plants started a bit poorly, they got better by the end of the lesson. Since you're planning to draw some extra plants though, I would like to take a look at them before letting you move on to lesson 4.

Next Steps:

1-2 pages of plants, try to focus on construction as much as possible.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Hi! I did my revisions, actually I went a little deeper because from the day I posted to when you did the critique some time has passed so I did a full week of plants and here are the 'best' pages and plants. https://imgur.com/a/3I31Bbu

Hello again, you really did a lot of pages! It isn't a huge deal in this case but try to avoid grinding in later lessons. Looking at your plants, I can see that you paid closer attention to the construction of each plant and other than a couple of branches, your constructions seem pretty solid. So, as promised, I'll mark this lesson as complete, good luck with lesson 4!

Next Steps:

Move on to lesson 4 :)

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
