Lesson 1: Lines, Ellipses and Boxes

Thank you
In general I can agree with the critique from MILKYPOTATO, although:
I can't agree to:
The Funnels, because this: "The minor axis cuts them in half [...]." isn't the case. Often they aren't aligned that well, in your example they are a sometimes off a bit. Watch out for that.
And on the Rotated Boxes they are not rotated "too much", but rather just have not a very good spacing in between the boxes and even are rotated maybe a bit too less.
Organic Perspective here are a few perspective issues but you'll work on them in the 250 Box Challenge.
Next Steps:
250 Box Challenge.
But still keep the exercises from lesson 1 as your 10-15min warmups before your Drawabox sessions. Maybe put there an extra eye out for the Ellipses, they take a lot of practice. ;) And practice to get the Superimposed lines smooth and tidy.
And don't forget about the 50/50 Rule, because otherwise the 250 Box Challenge can get pretty boring ;)
See you there!
Thank you! i'll follow the advise provided to fix the mistakes pointed out.
Hey there,
Lines
Ghosted Lines - Lines bend a little instead of making a straight line. This is could be due to not ghosting enough or not using your shoulders to make lines. If you are using your shoulder and still arching it can be fixed by trying to arch consciously to the opposite direction
Superimposed Lines- In some lines especially the longer ones, it looks like you didnt take the time to place dots in the beginning to avoid fraying in both sides.
Ellipses
Tables of Ellipses - Ellipses must be drawn through ellipses 2 to 3 times, in some ellipses it was more than this however other than this there is good confidence in your ellipses line work https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/a76a8906.jpg
Ellipses in Planes - Good! Its great that you are not sacrificing confidence over accuracy.
Funnels - The minor axis cuts them in half, they are tightly packed together and look confident. Nice!
Boxes
Plotted Perspective - Alright!
Rough Perspective - I can see you tried to correct your mark. However, this is something that is not advised, try not to correct your marks, no matter how off they are.
Rotated Boxes - Some of the box rotation are pretty good but there are some mistakes. I believe one of the mistake has been not properly aligning the front edges of the boxes , https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/9a16c189.jpg. Some are rotated too much because the corners between boxes are far apart; it must be kept close
Organic Perspective - Good job!
Next Steps:
Keep practicing your line work, dont forget to draw from your shoulder because this will significantly improve the way your lines are drawn. The 250 boxes will surely help you improved your line work. Proceed with 250 box challenge and dont rush it, take your time; plan and evaluate every boxes you do every pages. Remember you can ask for advice on the discord channel. Have fun and good luck :D
I dont have all that much to add. your biggest issue is definetaly the linework - yout straight lines are too wobbly all the way through. You need to practice ghosting and confident linework going forward - I would focus in that when you do warm-ups.
Thanks for the feedback, my linework is definitely an issue i will continue to work on it.
This is another one of those things that aren't sold through Amazon, so I don't get a commission on it - but it's just too good to leave out. PureRef is a fantastic piece of software that is both Windows and Mac compatible. It's used for collecting reference and compiling them into a moodboard. You can move them around freely, have them automatically arranged, zoom in/out and even scale/flip/rotate images as you please. If needed, you can also add little text notes.
When starting on a project, I'll often open it up and start dragging reference images off the internet onto the board. When I'm done, I'll save out a '.pur' file, which embeds all the images. They can get pretty big, but are way more convenient than hauling around folders full of separate images.
Did I mention you can get it for free? The developer allows you to pay whatever amount you want for it. They recommend $5, but they'll allow you to take it for nothing. Really though, with software this versatile and polished, you really should throw them a few bucks if you pick it up. It's more than worth it.
