A little story for the Solanites ( potato-folk ):

Chlorion is a planet teeming with plant life, where the line between flora and fauna is blurred. The environment is lush and filled with a variety of colorful flowers and other vegetation. The flora has evolved to be able to thrive in this environment and has developed unique ways to move around, gather food, and defend themselves from predators.

The Solanites are the most intelligent and graceful creatures on Chlorion. They are a potato-like species that have evolved to live in harmony with the plant life around them. Solanites feed primarily on sunlight through photosynthesis, but they have also developed the ability to absorb nutrients from the soil through their potato-like roots. They can also consume small insects and other tiny creatures that happen to fly by, since they have a wide slit-like mouth, which they can open up wide.

The world of Chlorion is not without danger. The mutations of flora and fauna have created all kinds of deadly creatures that the Solanites must constantly watch out for. Despite the dangers of their world, the Solanites remain steadfast in their journey through life, driven by a deep respect for the natural order of things and a profound sense of unity with the world around them.

In this world of Chlorion, the Aethergourds are cherished companions and friends to the Solanites. These winged courgettes have raven-like wings and a single large eye at the top of their body, resembling a cyclops.

Solanites have long admired the Aethergourds' graceful movements through the air and have even adapted their own fashion to incorporate the look of the courgettes' wings. The Solanites wear long, flowing robes that mimic the shape and texture of the Aethergourds' wings, with intricate patterns woven into the fabric to match the wing veins of the courgettes.

he Aethergourds provide important services to the Solanites in this dangerous world. They serve as scouts and messengers, flying swiftly through the air to deliver messages and report on the state of the world beyond the plant life. They are also skilled hunters and gatherers, using their sharp senses and aerial agility to catch small insects and other prey for their Solanite companions.

The bond between Solanites and Aethergourds is not just one of friendship, but of deep spiritual connection. Through an ancient ritual passed down through generations, the Solanites are able to communicate with the Aethergourds on a profound level, sharing thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a way that transcends mere words.

During the ritual, the Solanites gather together in a sacred circle and call upon the Aethergourds to join them. The courgettes descend from the sky, their wings fluttering softly in the breeze, and land in the center of the circle. The Solanites then close their eyes and focus their thoughts on the Aethergourds, sending out a wave of energy that connects their minds and souls.

Through this powerful bond, the Solanites are able to understand the Aethergourds' needs and desires, and the courgettes are able to sense the Solanites' emotions and intentions. This connection allows them to work together seamlessly, whether hunting for food or exploring the world around them.

Despite the dangers of their world, the Solanites and Aethergourds remain steadfast in their journey through life, driven by a deep respect for the natural order of things and a profound sense of unity with the world around them. Chlorion is a world of wonder and beauty, where the flora and fauna are inextricably intertwined and the line between plant and animal is blurred beyond recognition.

The Art of Brom

The Art of Brom

Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.

The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
