please don't mind the inconsistencies, especially in earlier exercises. some of them i didn't get a chance to redo once i figured out the best way to replicate a 0.5mm fineliner and the appropriate conditions for drawabox. i hope you can look past them, as well as the fact that this is digital since i don't have any money to spend on pen and paper and just happened to have a drawing tablet from a long time ago so i have no choice. everything following this will be without those inconsistencies.

i have read the "why ink?" article multiple times and looked through all of the discussion that i could find about that topic and i tried my best to emulate an environment that is as close as i can get it to what it should be like, especially later on in the exercises. it's not perfect considering the mindset difference between pen and paper vs digital is one of the main reasons but i made sure to take that into account as much as i could.

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
