Hi Nachoman,

LINES

1) Your superimposed lines are nicely done, straight, confident lines that fray only on one end. Now judging by the angle of a lot of your lines it doesn't seem like you drew them with a ruler, and because of that your longer 2 lines at the bottom of page 1 seem to be arching. Try to avoid that.

2) Confident Ghosted lines, also pretty accurate. Good work.

3) Nicely done ghosted planes.

ELIPSES

1) Overall you have nice and round elipses. But they do get wobbly and deformed at times so make sure to ghost plenty!

2) In Elipses in Planes the same wobbliness occurs at times.

3) Well spaced elipses in the funnels exercise, however there are elipses that don't get symmetrically divided into halves by the minor axis, so try to be a tad more careful with those.

BOXES

1) Not much of an issue in Plotted and Rough perspective exercises

2) You 100% haven't used up enough space in the rotated boxes exercise. A ton of the exercises we do here require you using tons of space, so relax and take up the entire page! Don't confine your work to a small section of it. Also you haven't really rotated after the first box, this could help.

3) Organic boxes are fine, some of your smaller, far-away boxes have more lineweight and thickness than the ones closer to the camera. I don't know if this is intentional or an accident, but it breaks the illusion of depth and 3D.

Next Steps:

All I want you to re-attempt here is the rotated boxes exercise. Remember:

  • Use plenty of space!

  • Rotate your boxes, don't just bring them closer to the vanishing point of the earlier box, but move their vanishing points.

  • Keep your boxes close together! (Could be due to poor spacing here, just keep it in mind.)

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Thank you very much for the critique, its very helpful! I re-attempted the rotated boxes and tried using more space and to get the rotation better. Here is the link to the revised homework [https://imgur.com/a/zmk90HQ]

Hi!

You have improved!

You've used much more space and there is more rotation in your boxes too, I think you could still improve on your spacing between the boxes, especially in the top left corner where it gets quite messy. So keep at it and you'll get even better!

Next Steps:

Move on to 250 box challenge!

The Art of Brom

The Art of Brom

Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.

The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
