Hello Kapowh! First of all, congratulations for finishing lesson 1! I’m going to give you my critique. If I don’t specify too much about an individual exercise, then it means you’ve done them correctly as instructed and there’s not too much to say about it. Hope my critique can help you.
First of all, the lines.
For the ghosted lines and ghosted planes, there are still noticeable wobbles in some of your lines. But they’re not too bad. You can still improve them in your future warmups.
Next, the ellipses. Some of your ellipses are still slightly wobbly, but again, they’re not too bad. I also noticed that you drew through some of your ellipses too much (more than 3 times). This is forgivable, but for your future warmups you need to only draw them through 2-3 times at most.
Finally, the boxes. I noticed that you’re using dotted paper for these exercises, which is acceptable for now, and the dots aren’t as distracting as, say, lined paper. However, I still recommend you to use plain paper for future lessons, because a lot of exercises there are going to be more complex, and dotted paper might distract you or others who want to critique your work.
Your struggles seem to be most obvious in the rotated boxes exercise. Which is okay, because this exercise is supposed to be too hard. There are some parts where you forgot to hatch the sides of the boxes https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aZ4tlCGKw5qoMkdl1dr-jxM4bQ6KL97E/view?usp=sharing , but that’s okay.
For the organic perspective exercise, you did pretty well. Some of the boxes are distorted, but they’re fine. Just like the rotated boxes, this exercise was supposed to be too hard to nail for the first time.
Overall, I think you did pretty well. You didn’t nail some of the exercises perfectly, but you did well enough to understand what’s the point of this exercise. There is still some room for improvement, but you’ll be doing them (and eventually improve by doing so) in your future warmups.
Next Steps:
Now you’re ready for the 250 boxes challenge! Best of luck!
Sakura Pigma Microns
A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.
In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
