Hello and congrats on completing lesson one. I'll be taking a look at your submission today. Starting with your superimposed lines these turned out fine. You are keeping a clearly defined starting point with all of your tapering on the opposite end. Your ghosted lines and planes turned out pretty well. I think you are using the ghosting method to good effect to get some very confident linework with a pretty decent degree of accuracy. I'm noticing you have a habit of redrawing lines on occasion though and this is something I would like you to avoid. Try and work with the inital line you put down.

Your table of ellipses are looking really good. You are doing a great job drawing through all of your ellipses and you appear to be shooting for consistent smooth ellipse shapes. This is carried over nicely into your ellipses in planes. It's good that you are focusing more on smooth ellipse shapes over accuracy as that is the right call for now. Accuracy is our ultimate goal and what we are building towards with consistent practice. Your ellipses in funnels look fine not really seeing any issues here. Your ellipses are off to a very nice start but there's almost always room for improvement so keep practicing these during your warmups.

The plotted perspective exercises look fine nothing to mention on these. Your rough perspective boxes turned out okay. I'm see some wobbly and shaky lines returning here. This is a pretty common occurence with this exercise and most of the time it's because people revert back to drawing from their wrist especially when adding line weight. Always draw from your shoulder with confidence. Even on short lines. Your wrist should be reserved for detail work only. You did a good job extending the lines back on your boxes to check your work. As you can see some of your perspective estimations were a bit off but that will get better with practice.

Your rotated box exercise turned out pretty well! You are doing a great job drawing through your boxes and keeping your gaps narrow and consistent. Your line quality is looking pretty confident here as well. You are running into a pretty common mistake here though of not actually rotating your boxes but instead simply drawing them moving back into perspective. Please check the lesson notes here. https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/16/notrotating This is a great exercise to come back to after a few lessons to see how much your spatial thinking ability has improved. Your organic perspective exercises turned out okay. Your linework feels confident for the most part but when you are adding line weight you are once again likely using your wrist and it's making it look a bit feathery. If you want to add line weight try and treat it like every other line you would draw and ghost it multiple times and then draw from your shoulder with confidence. Your box constructions could definitely stand for some improvement as well so the 250 box challenge will be a great next step for you.

Overall this was a really good submission and your ellipses and line confidence showed some real growth here. I think you are understanding most of the concepts these lessons are trying to convey pretty well. I'm going to mark this as complete and good luck with the 250 box challenge!

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
