Hello there, I've just finished the first lesson, and I am looking forward to learning from my mistakes in these exercises, any feedback is really appreciated. Thank you in advance :)

By the way, the Assignment Checklist says that I should add 2 pages for Ghosted Planes and 2 pages for Ellipses in Planes exercises, but since we used the same set for drawing the ellipses, I've only added 2 pages. If I'm mistaken, I'm sorry.

HI! Don´t worry about the pages for ellipses in planes, it´s okay to just add the 2 pages.

I´m gonna divide into the three sections: lines, ellipses and boxes.

LINES:

Your lines are confident and smooth all the way through, which is fantastic even if you don´t get accurate at first. Just a reminder to start your lines from the same point. In your planes, I can see that you plotted your lines(planned where a line starts and finishes), just a reminder to keep this habit of ghosting(thinking about your lines) since it´s really useful in the future.

ELLIPSES:

In the table of ellipses, each ellipse must touch each other and kept in the bounds, in the second page I see that you had trouble with that, but I think it´s allright since in the first page you did much better. Again, in the planes some ellipses don´t touch the bounds of the planes. I suggest to use the ghosting method, plan your ellipses before the pen touches the paper keeping in mind the bounds, practice those in another page. Your funnels are great, just a reminder again that your ellipses should be close to each other.

BOXES:

The boxes look pretty fine and clean in the first exercise. In rough perspective, your first boxes look jelly-like and messy but as you keep going it starts to take shape into much solid boxes, good job! On rotated boxes, the boxes aren´t actually rotating, the drawing at the end should be in a kinda circular shape. I see a lot of people including myself to have trouble with this. So don´t worry, you´ll have more practice with the 250 box challenge, just keep that in mind. With organic perspective you did a pretty good job, there´s some common mistakes like lines a little wobbly, but you´ll have plenty of time to practice. I suggest to take a look at the extra notes on boxes, altought I know they can be exhausting and confusing but give it a try.

That´s all I can say about your work, tell me what you think!

Hi FAY!

Thank you a lot for critiquing my work!

Here is my comment for your critique;

-Lines-

Thank you, I will keep this in mind while moving forward.

-Ellipses-

You are right about my ellipses, I had some problems with trying to make them touch each other/ boundaries.

-Boxes-

I agree with you, my lines were a bit of a mess at first and only got better later on.

That's true, after finishing my work, I also realized that they weren't actually rotating. This exercise was probably the hardest one for me to wrap my head around.

I've actually read the extra notes, but it seems like I couldn't really comprehend all of it.

So, here are the things that I noted for myself from your critique:

1- I should try to improve my line making by a bit.

2- I should improve my understanding of spatial awareness.

3- I need to read the extra notes again.

Once again, thank you for taking time to critique my work!

(Excuse me if I have any grammar mistakes, I am not a native English speaker)

Hii, thank you for your reply, yes in summary that's what I'm trying to say, you are gonna practice that with the 250 boxes. Good luck and keep going!

Pentel Pocket Brush Pen

Pentel Pocket Brush Pen

This is a remarkable little pen. I'm especially fond of this one for sketching and playing around with, and it's what I used for the notorious "Mr. Monkey Business" video from Lesson 0. It's incredibly difficult to draw with (especially at first) due to how much your stroke varies based on how much pressure you apply, and how you use it - but at the same time despite this frustration, it's also incredibly fun.

Moreover, due to the challenge of its use, it teaches you a lot about the nuances of one's stroke. These are the kinds of skills that one can carry over to standard felt tip pens, as well as to digital media. Really great for doodling and just enjoying yourself.

I would not recommend this for Drawabox - we use brush pens for filling in shadow shapes, and you do not need a pen this fancy for that. If you do purchase it, save it for drawing outside of the course.
