Used a ballpoint point up until the second page of the ghosted planes exercise. The rest was done using a fineliner, as instructed.

Hello!

I really love what you've done here. Your lines in the line-based exercises are very smooth and confident. Nice job!

Something I want to mention is that your curved lines throughout the lesson, especially in the ellipse-based exercises, can either be inaccurate or very wobbly.

I would recommend you to try to think more about how these ellipses (and curved lines in general) would look once they have been drawn before you draw them. Take the ellipses in planes exercise; imagine an ellipse stretched according to the plane you've drawn before you draw it on the page. You could do this while ghosting, too, so you can have a physical "preview" of the mark you want to make. If you already do this, maybe do it for a little bit longer.

Something else that I've noticed is that in your organic perspective exercise, you tend to make the sets of parallel lines look exactly parallel to each other. Remember that, for drawing purposes, these sets of lines converge towards a vanishing point. It may also help to think where these lines are in relation to your horizon line.

You can ask questions like, "Is this line above or below the horizon?" or, "Where is the vanishing point that these parallel lines converge towards in relation to my object (to the left, right, up, etc.)?"

Overall, very good job!

Next Steps:

  • Take some extra time ghosting to have a better sense of what you intend your final product to look like (especially when dealing with lines that aren't straight)

  • Take more time to think about your object's behaviors and patterns are in perspective

Hi K0NJURA,

After reviewing your Lesson 1 results, I wanted to share my observations with you.

All required pages were included in Lesson 1 submissions.

Lines

I noticed that there was fraying on both ends of the lines. It's important to remember that the line should never fray on the starting dot, and you should take care to place the pen carefully at the beginning of each line to prevent this from happening.

Ellipses

I observed that most ellipses were drawn through 2 to 3 times, which is the recommended technique for achieving a smooth and accurate shape. However, most ellipses resemble circles and are not touching the planes. If you're not already doing so, I highly recommend applying the ghosting method to ellipses to achieve higher accuracy. Additionally, when working on ellipse tables, it's important to keep each ellipse within the bounds and ensure that they touch each other without overlapping. This is something you could focus more on, for example, if you ever redo it as part of a warm-up exercise

On the funnels exercise, I observed that your ellipses are symmetrical, which is good . However, I also noticed that the accuracy of the ellipses could be improved. To achieve greater precision, I highly recommend spending more time on ghosting ellipses before actually drawing them.

Boxes

When reviewing your rough perspective and organic perspective work, I noticed that there are more wobbly lines than in the exercises before. Unfortunately, I cannot pinpoint the exact reason for this. In contrast, when reviewing the rotated boxes exercise, I noticed that all lines are confidently drawn. This is a great accomplishment, and I congratulate you for your hard work on this exercise.

I hope my feedback has been helpful to you. Keep up the good work, and I wish you all the best as you move on to the 250 boxes exercise.

Best,

Neuromancer

These are my favourite sketchbooks, hands down. Move aside Moleskine, you overpriced gimmick. These sketchbooks are made by entertainment industry professionals down in Los Angeles, with concept artists in mind. They have a wide variety of sketchbooks, such as toned sketchbooks that let you work both towards light and towards dark values, as well as books where every second sheet is a semitransparent vellum.
