Lesson 2: Contour Lines, Texture and Construction
1:45 AM, Wednesday December 2nd 2020
Please give me an honest critique and thank you for reviewing my work!
Arrows:
Most look okayish though you messed up those darkening the overlaps part, it should be subtle not so thick (a bit more pressure while drawing that part or going over with minimal pressure & tapering at ends)
Countours:
Okayish, though it seems you forgot to use shoulder for non-full ellipses one
Texture: OK
Form Intersection: seems OK for me though I'm not sure I'm quialified to critique for this one
Organic forms intersection: Mostly OK, though shadows are kinda wrong, they should follow the form more
Next Steps:
Include some ellipses, pressure control & organic forms intersections into your warmup and move on to Lesson 3
Thank you for the honest critique! I'm am sorry that I did not read this sooner but I have been really busy since I finished and uploaded this lesson and I wanted to make sure I could sit down and understand what you were saying about each exercise.
Arrows:
I also agree that the line weight is too intense and needs to flow better in the other lines that make up the arrow.
Contours:
The lines on the semi ellipse one are definitely wobbly and jagged.
Form Intersection:
I also agree that based my current knowledge, the intersections seems ok.
Organic forms:
I had taken a lot of time to make sure the shadows contoured the forms while I drew them but upon reading your comment and looking back, many were wrong, so I appreciate your critique because these were things I either did not notice or they were mistakes I had just accepted.
Good luck on your Draw a Box journey and keep drawing!
Right from when students hit the 50% rule early on in Lesson 0, they ask the same question - "What am I supposed to draw?"
It's not magic. We're made to think that when someone just whips off interesting things to draw, that they're gifted in a way that we are not. The problem isn't that we don't have ideas - it's that the ideas we have are so vague, they feel like nothing at all. In this course, we're going to look at how we can explore, pursue, and develop those fuzzy notions into something more concrete.
