Hey, I'll be trying to critique your lesson 1 exercises!

Lines section

Super imposed lines

Overall this exercise is done well. There is arching and fraying on some longer lines but I see that you tried to keep fraying to a minimum and your arching well decrease as you draw more from your shoulder, good job!

Ghosted lines and Ghosted planes

These exercises are also well done, but there are some minor mistakes which are present in both. There are a few wobbly lines and also a a few redone or arching lines remember :No matter how off a line is, a student should never repeat it.Also in Ghosted planes exercise there is a lot of free space you could us,maybe start with ghosting at the edges and then move on to the middle area because u will get much more diverse planes. In the future try ghosting a little bit more not too much but 3-4 times before putting a final line so your lines feel much more confident and smooth.Overall lines section is solid.

Ellipses section

Tables of ellipses

I really like how u made all ellipses have flow and order, also some seem very confident and smooth plus most of them dont overlap nor exit the planes in which they are ,good job!Now there are also some minor mistakes which are again due to not ghosting enough, mainly some arching and fraying but overall looks very good. Also try to draw through ellipse just 2-3 times.

Funnels

Most of this funnels look solid but there are a few where the minor axis ( the line in the middle) dosent cut ellipses in two halves. Also some funnels are bent that much so ellipses cant go from small to big like they should,in the future try bending funnels a little bit more with any round object you have.

Ellipses in planes

Now there are some bigger mistakes in this one which are again due to not ghosting enough which results in wobbly ellipses, arching or going over their borders, not being smooth enough etc.Tho this isnt the case for all of them and there are some decent ones. Also since in Ghosted planes exercise there was a lot of free space same can be said for this one. When ghosting ghost around the planes so you get ellipses like these : https://imgur.com/a/z7dnKB3

Box section

Plotted perspective mostly looks fine but i think you forgot to add lines for some boxes mainly : https://imgur.com/a/USZ2ptR

Rough Perspective

Now this is a ruff one (pun intended). There are a lot of wobbly lines but thats not the biggest issue here. Most of the boxes are lost in space https://imgur.com/a/Una4Xum , https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/6bac0e3b.jpg. in stead of converging to the vanishing point https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/cc14a4f6.jpg. Your boxes are often lost in space and arent parallel and perpendicular to the horizon.Remember:

**If you ever catch yourself guessing or uncertain about how to draw a line, stop and step back. Take a look at the system you're working with, and think about the short list of possible behaviours. In one point perspective (which we are using for this exercise), you have the following behaviours:

1.**All lines that go off into the distance converge at the vanishing point

2.All horizontal lines run perfectly parallel to the horizon

3.All vertical lines run perfectly perpendicular to the horizon

Also boxes are too much near one another, try spreading them a little bit and try keep your frames which in you draw the boxes mostly the same.

Rotating boxes

In this exercise there are also a lot of mistakes, mostly boxes arent kept together which results in destroying the illusion of

boxes going around each other:https://imgur.com/a/abaNZa7, https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/9a16c189.jpg

Keeping your gaps narrow and consistent is critical to being able to use neighbouring forms as effectively as possible to infer information about space.

Also some other mistakes are some wobbly lines and you should do only one Rotating boxes exercise not two like you submitted. But this are minor mistakes compare to the other ones.I suggest going one more time through Rotating boxes homework before doing a redo just so you dont make other mistakes which are also common while doing this exercise.

Organic perspective

First thing I can see is that perspective in these are often to complicated which results in really messy exercises.Try to keep your perspective simple like you did in some examples, mainly : https://imgur.com/a/YFVNfts. There are also a lot of wobbling lines and redone lines which I already explained are bad. Also I noticed you organics perspective doesnt really have a flow and most of the boxes are overlapping in a way that doesent have an effect of organic movement, try putting just a bit of a box beneath another box. Most of your boxes dont follow the Y method of drawing a box : https://imgur.com/a/YCYMEL8 and tho there are some different boxes most of them are the same size which doesent convey the sense of depth if

the boxes were larger and smaller.

Wrong:https://imgur.com/a/KlwVx2w

Right:https://imgur.com/a/nAEwNNe

*Main poinst:

-Draw more from arm

-Ghost before putting on a final line

-When drawing ellipses draw 2-3 time through them

-Dont redo lines remember No matter how off a line is, a student should never repeat it

-If you ever catch yourself guessing or uncertain about how to draw a line, stop and step back. Take a look at the system you're working with, and think about the short list of possible behaviours. In one point perspective (which we are using for this exercise), you have the following behaviours:

-1.All lines that go off into the distance converge at the vanishing point

-2.All horizontal lines run perfectly parallel to the horizon

-3.All vertical lines run perfectly perpendicular to the horizon

Next Steps:

Now I pointed out some key mistakes you did but i recommend going trough the specific homework pages for the revision you need to do.

**-1 page ellipses in planes

-half a page of Funnels

-2 pages of rough perspective

-1 page of rotating boxes

-1 page of organic perspective**

Good luck!!!!

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Hello GYANYU,

Thank you so much for critiquing my work and am very greatrful for your time. I will do the revisions to my homework. However I would like to let you know that all the links you provided led to blank web pages. I'll try and do the revisons with what instruction yu have given me.

Links worked for me during the editing phase but I dont know why are they broken now . If u copy paste link to another tab it should work (which I see you probably figured out) .Also I see that some text isnt bold like it should be idk if its a glitch or a mistake on my part.If u have any other issues (with exercises or critique) please massage me or go to the official discord server .(also re-reading some sentences grammar is little bit weird in some sections, sorry for that, second language and all, again if u need help pls message) Good luck!

U have same mistakes as previously mentioned.Ellipses do look better tho.

When doing funnel for warm ups try doing more funnel different sizes. And your line in the middle needs to cut all ellipses in half as close as you can make it.

With your rough perspective there are still same mistakes.Your biggest problem is that you dont map out the boxes which is very important. https://imgur.com/a/9ToCUUs Firstly try to map out all lines using dots like you did in some areas and than make the final line.U still make mistake of guessing where lines need to go,remember : **If you ever catch yourself guessing or uncertain about how to draw a line, stop and step back.

Also try to have some distance between your box and vanishing point.Put one on the end of a panel, one in the middle etc.Dont group them like this : https://imgur.com/a/sgBqRfH .

And at least try to make your panels which you draw boxes in consistent ( same length and width)

Tho rotated boxes are better there are still mistakes. Again, not mapping your boxes toward vanishing point.Your middle boxes are much better tho. When re doing this exercise map out your lines so they go to the vanishing point witch is in the middle box : https://imgur.com/a/ZpwZdzT .Main problem you have is that you guess to much and your boxes start to wonder off and not stick close to one another.

Your organic perspective is much better, but there are still mistakes previously pointed out.

Next Steps:

I want you to do the same pages as before except the ellipse and funnel exercise. And before doing revisions go to the homework pages for each said homework exercise and go trough them again, maybe even take notes for some important things/things I pointed out.

**-2 pages of rough perspective

**-1 page of rotating boxes

****-1 page of organic perspective

**Good luck!!!!

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

It's also more than that - it's a hand-picked recommendation of something I've used myself. If you're interested, here is a full list.
Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
