Hello! Congratulations on completing all the lesson 1 exercises, I'm here to give you some feedback today.

Lines

Super Imposed Lines: These are off to a good start, your lines look smooth and confident and only fray at one end, well done.

Ghosted Lines: I'm pleased to see that your initial confidence has carried over to the ghosted lines exercise too, these are looking smooth as well. Some of them have a very subtle curve to them. There is a possibility that this is caused by drawing from your elbow more than your shoulder, so just double check that you're using your shoulder to drive the motion. I would encourage you to try drawing longer lines when you practice this exercise in your warm ups. Try making ghosted lines that cross the whole length of your page, this will force you to use your shoulder, if you're not already doing so.

Ghosted Planes: Good work here! You clearly understand the exercise. Some of your lines look super smooth and straight, and again there are a few with a subtle arch or S curve to them. If you are already drawing from your shoulder and you consistently arch your lines in one direction it can help to consciously arch your lines the opposite way to counteract it.

Ellipses

Tables of Ellipses: These are off to a good start. You've done a good job of drawing through most of your ellipses. There are a few where your pen is only going around one and a half times. For all ellipses in Dawabox exercises you should draw through them 2-3 times, with 2 being ideal. You're showing an awareness of the aim to keep the ellipses within the bounds, each ellipse touching each other, without overlapping. Most of your ellipses look smooth and confident, there are a few wobbly ones that have got a little dented or deformed (which is totally normal, don't worry) for these remember to prioritise confidence over accuracy. A line or ellipse that is drawn confidently but misses the "goal" will be considered more correct during this course than a mark that is hesitant and wobbly, but accurate. If you struggle with confidence, remember you can ghost as much as you like before putting your pen on the page, then trust in your muscle memory to do the job for you.

Ellipses in Planes: Great job! These are looking smoother than your tables, and you drew through all of them twice, well done. Sometimes these miss one or more of the sides of the planes, but don't worry, accuracy will improve with practice. Happy to see you drawing confidently here!

Ellipses in Funnels: Good work. Same comments as your ellipses in planes. You've mostly done a very good job of keeping your ellipses aligned to the minor axis too. When you practice this exercise in warm ups you can try increasing the degree of your ellipses as they get further from the middle of the funnel.

Boxes

Plotted Perspective: Excellent, well done!

Rough Perspective: Good job remembering to use the ghosting method to plan your lines and execute them with confidence. The first panel looks like you were a little bit confused with how to get your depth lines on your boxes to converge to the vanishing point but I'm pleased to see a massive improvement across the set, well done. You've done a good job of extending your lines to check your perspective estimations, in the future you only need to extend these as far as the horizon line when practising this exercise. It's a tiny nitpick but it makes it less cluttered and easier for you to asses your own work. Aim to keep your horizontal lines parallel to the horizon line and your verticals perpendicular to it. This can be difficult at first, and I think you're on the right track.

Rotated Boxes: I'm afraid I'm gonna have to bonk you with a rolled up newspaper for doing this twice bonks but you did a good job. Your second attempt shows more consistent rotation with your boxes. You did a good job of using the edges of neighbouring boxes to keep everything aligned, well done. Oddly enough, you drew through all your boxes on the first one, but didn't draw through the corner boxes on the second, remember to draw through them all next time. On your second one I see a couple of places where you went over a line more than once, in what looks like an attempt to correct it. No matter how off you think a line is, just keep it as if it were correct and move on. Repeating it will only draw attention to your perceived mistake and clutter up your drawing. Nonetheless, you've done a good job with a notoriously difficult exercise well done.

Organic Perspective: Good job varying the size of your boxes to give a sense of depth within your frames here. Same comment as above about not repeating lines to correct them. Now, I may be mistaken, but it looks like you started this exercise being fairly conscientious about placing points to plan your lines and using the ghosting method, but on the second page I'm not seeing many of your planning dots which suggests you may have been winging it or rushing. These exercises can be very demanding, always take your time, take breaks if you need them. Anyway, it looks like you understand the exercise and I'm happy to mark your homework as complete. Congratulations!

Obligatory "It was me, Dio!" Joke. XD
