Superimposed lines:

Pretty good, I can see some of them are wobbling a little bit, but in general you try to be confident in your lines. A large amount of the longer lines have fraying at the beginning end, so make sure you are careful when placing the start-point.

Ghosted lines:

The way you made this exercise makes it a bit harder to discern whether you have some flaws in accuracy and overshooting. Generally, it's advised to follow the example. But from what I can see, most of the lines are fine, I can see some repeated lines here and there, try to avoid them. No matter how much a line is missed, just keep it that way, don't try to fix it with another line.

Ghosted planes:

Some of the lines have a bit of wobble here and repeated lines are also a problem. Still, not too bad, just keep working on those confident strokes!

Table of ellipses:

Most of the ellipses are drawn with confident, smooth lines. Some are slightly misshapen, you might want to try ghosting the shape a couple more times before marking it down. Still, it's a well done exercise, you have decent variance in your ellipses, good job!

Ellipses in planes:

For the most part those are good, though some are misshapen to better fit in the plane. Make sure to avoid that, it's better to have well shaped ellipse that doesn't fix exactly. Other than that - just make sure you ghost the ellipse a bit more before commiting.

Funnels:

Make sure the line is directly between the curves, measure with a ruler if necessary (personally, I recommend drawing the line first and then place the curves exact distance away from the line). Your curves also seem to be drawn free-hand - I recommend using a circular object to draw those. Also, a decent amount of ellipses seem to be off-axis. Take your time planning the ellipses and ghosting them. I will say that the ellipse shapes are generally good here though!

Plotted perspective:

I can see a couple lines that are misplaced, but it's a nitpick. Well done here!

Rough perspective:

Perspective itself is well done, though a lot of lines here have wobble or repeated lines. Remember - it's okay (and in fact much better than wobbled line) if you miss your line. Focus on making your lines and confident and straight as you can and worry about accuracy later!

Rotated boxes:

Your boxes are rotating properly and it's well done in general. Though, the point about repeated lines is repeated (hah) here too, still great job at this difficult exercise!

Organic perspective:

You try various angles of boxes here, which is really good! In general, this exercise is well done, boxes are increasing in size correctly, of course perspective isn't always correct, but that's something you gonna work A LOT on in the 250 Box Challenge. Other than that - just repeated lines again. Though you do have a lot less wobble here than on rough perspetive, so it's nice to see you working on those confident lines!

Overall - pretty good. I have to say that repeated lines are a repeated problem through the exercise (and they get worse as we go along), so make sure you work on that a lot. If a line is made, it's final, don't try to fix it with another one. Other than that, ghost ellipses a bit more to have a better shape and keep working on those confident lines!

At first I wanted to request revisions of funnels, but I think I will mark this lesson as complete. Just make sure to do the funnels exercise properly as your warm up soon, using ruler to put the line directly between the curves, and for curves themselves use a circular object.

Next Steps:

You can move on to 250 Box Challenge!

Thank you so much for the feedback! I appreciate the constructive breakdown of my mistakes, since I feel like I was missing a lot of what I lacked. I will try starting the 250 boxes challenge now, but I'll also try repeating the funnels excercise as a warmup and apply the advices you stated. Again, thank you so much for the feedback!

Glad to hear that! Good luck with your boxes! :P

Color and Light by James Gurney

Color and Light by James Gurney

Some of you may remember James Gurney's breathtaking work in the Dinotopia series. This is easily my favourite book on the topic of colour and light, and comes highly recommended by any artist worth their salt. While it speaks from the perspective of a traditional painter, the information in this book is invaluable for work in any medium.
