Lesson 1: Lines, Ellipses and Boxes

hello, this was really fun to do
Hello megeary and welcome! I'm glad to see you're having fun! Overall you've done a great job throughout the exercises, but let's go through them section by section:
Starting with your lines you're doing a great job committing to your lines drawing them confidently even if they miss the ending point! The accuracy is also pretty good as well overall so that's great as well. The only thing on this section is that on the ghosted planes there are some lines where you didn't place the starting and ending dots before drawing the lines. Be careful with it as it's pretty important for applying the ghosting method.
Moving onto your ellipses you're doing a great job at drawing them confidently as well! The ellipses on the tables of ellipses fit pretty well in general and the tables don't confuse you as you still draw the ellipses confidently on them. The only two things I notice in this section is that you might be drawing smaller ellipses with the wrist as they get a little bit wobbly at times. Make sure you still use your shoulder for them even if the accuracy gets worse. I know it's super hard to draw them with the shoulder, but it's important so you build good habits.
The other thing is that on the funnels sometimes you aren't alligning the ellipses to the minor axis. Make sure you always aim for the ellipses to be cut in 2 identical halves by the axis, even if that means you need to ignore the middle curve. The vertical allignment is very good though, good job on drawing them straight!
Finally in your boxes a few things:
-You're maintaining confidence even in boxes so great job on not getting confused by them!
-On rough perspective you're doing a very good job drawing vertical and horizontal lines, as well as the depth lines, they're pretty accurate already! The only thing here is that a few times you make your lines wobble a little bit, so just to make sure remember you should always try to get the lines to be straight as your maximum priority, try to remind it to yourself constantly.
-On rotated boxes you're rotating most of the boxes and keeping them together, great job! The only thing is that you are drawing a little bit too small, so next time you try this exercise try to plan the overall size of the rotated boxes before starting it.
-Sometimes you repeat lines that were off. No matter how off a line is do your best not to repeat it, keep going as if it was correct as redrawing them will make the drawing messier and can encourage bad habits.
-Lastly on organic perspective you're doing a good job drawing clean lines, but I think that sometimes you don't draw starting and ending dots before drawing every line. Make sure you always draw them as it's super important for doing the ghosting method correctly. The perspective of the boxes have issues, but that's not a problem as you'll work on them throughout the box challenge!
Overall like I said earlier you've done a great job, so I'll mark this as complete. Make sure you plan all your lines from now on, don't forget to start doing warmups before every session and good luck on the box challenge, keep up the good work! Feel free to also ask any doubts if you have them!
Next Steps:
250 box challenge
Let's be real here for a second: fineliners can get pricey. It varies from brand to brand, store to store, and country to country, but good fineliners like the Staedtler Pigment Liner (my personal brand favourite) can cost an arm and a leg. I remember finding them being sold individually at a Michael's for $4-$5 each. That's highway robbery right there.
Now, we're not a big company ourselves or anything, but we have been in a position to periodically import large batches of pens that we've sourced ourselves - using the wholesale route to keep costs down, and then to split the savings between getting pens to you for cheaper, and setting some aside to one day produce our own.
These pens are each hand-tested (on a little card we include in the package) to avoid sending out any duds (another problem with pens sold in stores). We also checked out a handful of different options before settling on this supplier - mainly looking for pens that were as close to the Staedtler Pigment Liner. If I'm being honest, I think these might even perform a little better, at least for our use case in this course.
We've also tested their longevity. We've found that if we're reasonably gentle with them, we can get through all of Lesson 1, and halfway through the box challenge. We actually had ScyllaStew test them while recording realtime videos of her working through the lesson work, which you can check out here, along with a variety of reviews of other brands.
Now, I will say this - we're only really in a position to make this an attractive offer for those in the continental United States (where we can offer shipping for free). We do ship internationally, but between the shipping prices and shipping times, it's probably not the best offer you can find - though this may depend. We also straight up can't ship to the UK, thanks to some fairly new restrictions they've put into place relating to their Brexit transition. I know that's a bummer - I'm Canadian myself - but hopefully one day we can expand things more meaningfully to the rest of the world.
