I did these a while back and i didn't know there was a community review on DaB. Currently i have completed lesson 5 and hence i've improved a lot since lesson 1. Still i'll be more than happy to redo any exercise in which errors will be pointed out.

Thanks.

Lines

Lines are pretty confident and accurate overall, just a few things to keep in mind:

-On the superimposed lines, you have fraying in both ends in some of your lines. Place your pen carefully at the start of each line before drawing each one of them so this doesn't happen.

-On the ghosted planes you haven't plotted all of your lines. Remember, before drawing any ghosted line, make sure that you have drawn a starting and ending dot first.

Ellipses

On ellipses you are having confidence issues, particularly on the ghosted planes with ellipses. Don't forget that you should always prioritize confidence over accuracy. On the ghosted planes, remember that the centre of the planes doesn't need to be the same as the centre of the ellipse, in case that was confusing you a bit.

Boxes

On boxes you're doing a pretty good job as well. Confident lines and the boxes are pretty solid. I can only catch 2 things:

-First thing is that you're repeating some lines. When you get a line wrong, leave it be and go on to the next line. Don't repeat it as it will make the drawing messier.

-Second thing is plotting lines. Your drawings hint me you might not be plotting your lines on the boxes, specially on the organic boxes exercise. As I mentioned earlier, make sure that you draw a starting and ending point before drawing any line.

In general pretty good job! Good luck with your next lessons and keep it up! As I said to you earlier you can do 5 critiques of a lesson you've had marked as complete and I'll critique one of your submissions. If you choose to do it just ping, pm me or reply this message and I'll note it.

Next Steps:

Lesson 2 would be the next step (though you have already completed it)

This community member feels the lesson should be marked as complete, and 5 others agree. The student has earned their completion badge for this lesson and should feel confident in moving onto the next lesson.

Color and Light by James Gurney

Color and Light by James Gurney

Some of you may remember James Gurney's breathtaking work in the Dinotopia series. This is easily my favourite book on the topic of colour and light, and comes highly recommended by any artist worth their salt. While it speaks from the perspective of a traditional painter, the information in this book is invaluable for work in any medium.
