Hello senmoki!

Overall, you have a done a pretty good job.

Lines are mostly smooth and confident, and there’s indications of shoulder usage. Some lines [arc] https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/9/arc) slightly. But you’re working in the right direction. Keep on using your shoulder and ghost as you execute your lines.

Ellipses have fairly smooth strokes. They are pretty loose, causing the ellipses to tend to bleed into each other. You might be drawing through the ellipses a little bit too fast. Don’t be afraid to experiment with the speed; try to slow down a little (not so much that the strokes become wobbly) to see if you can tighten them up a little. I do see they start to tighten up a little more in the funnels exercises, so keep working on that path. Also, it's great to see you are drawing through your ellipses, but sometimes they are drawn through more than the necessary times. 2-3 times through (no more, no less) will suffice. The ellipses are generally aligned to the minor axis on the funnels exercise.

As you move onto the box exercises, the line quality starts to dip compared to your lines exercises. The lines here are generally more hesitant and wobbly. Take your time to ghost the lines with your shoulder and rotate the page as necessary as you execute the line. A smooth, confident line that is slightly off on accuracy is much better than a wobbly line that is accurate. Also, another thing to note is even if there is a line that is incorrect, do not repeat/reinforce the line to correct it. Stick with the line you have.

Rough Perspective:

The convergences aren’t too bad. Although it is challenging, a couple of things to keep in mind is that horizontal lines should be parallel to the horizon line, and vertical lines perpendicular to the horizon line. There are a couple of these lines that tend to veer off diagonally.

Rotated Boxes:

Kudos on getting through this exercise! The boxes along the horizontal and vertical axes are generally rotating, so nice job with that. Some of the boxes along the edges (not on the axis) are not quite rotating. You’ve mostly drew through the boxes, which is great. However, a few are not fully drawn through, particularly those in the bottom corners.

Organic perspective:

Nice job keeping the boxes on the path you’ve laid out. As the boxes move along the path, they generally get smaller and convey a sense that they are moving away from the viewer. In terms of perspective, there are diverging lines occurring, where the farther planes appear to get larger, in turn skewing the perspective. But don’t worry, as this is something you’ll get to work on in the 250 box challenge!

Congratulations on completing Lesson 1!

Next Steps:

Continue to use these exercises as part of your warm ups

Feel free to move on to the 250 box challenge

Thank you so much this is a great amount of information and feedback I can use! I've already completed the 250 box challenge and it definitely made me extremely better at ghosting and using my shoulder, to the point where now it feels like I automatically use my shoulder (at least it feels that way after completing the first couple homeworks in lesson 2) it was a brutal week but I can definitely see why the 250 box challenge is done, it helped a lot with all of the lessons in lesson 1 especially with the things you pointed out that I struggled with, I'm very happy you took the time to write this, it helps a lot to hear back from you!

A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.

In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
