Orientation of animals

I notice when doing animals most of the studies are from the side, or they are perpendicular to us. Meaning the animal is not being put in a orientation where its coming at us through the Depth Axis. So when looking at a refrence where it's angled more towards us do you just make the Form masses you draw closer to eachother almost overlapping, because Forshortening exist.
