While we appreciate those who take time out of their day to offer feedback to others, it does take time to provide feedback that is useful, and unfortunately encouraging statements alone do not provide enough - while also making the system think that the student has received feedback, and thus bumping them further down the list and making it less likely they'll receive any further follow-up.

If you're interested in learning how to give more actionable feedback, you can take a look at the checklists prepared by one of our teaching assistants, Elodin:

If however you do not have the time (as many people have busy lives), it's best that you not comment at all so the submission remains in a position to be seen by others.

Hello Vinomino! I went over your homework and although you have done a really good job I would like to point out a couple of things that you can work on.

Firstly, your lines are a bit wobbly. What's causing this is most likely not using the shoulder pivot. Before making a line, try planning or ghosting more to achieve better accuracy, but your priority should be confidence ( this applies to all of your exercises). There is a couple of cases where you repeat lines, so try working on that by reminding yourself while doing the work.

Moving on, your ellipses tend to deform in certain cases. Ellipses must be symmetrical and have the same shape, so the only thing you can change is their position and size.

In the funnels exercise some of your ellipses are not going straight through the minor axes. ( because of spacing! )

Now about your boxes :

In the exercise plotted perspective, it is not necessary to put your vanishing points off the page because we are just learning about perspective and you were not really sure about where your lines go.

Further on, in the rough perspective homework try using dots instead of just executing the lines to keep your work clean. Overall looks good!

Next exercise, rotated boxes, has the same mistakes I already mentioned, I would just add that you are missing a box in the top right corner.

Organic perspective looks good and again, I would suggest using dots before putting down the line on the page.

Overall you have done well, so I will mark this homework complete. Pay attention to these mistakes in the future and good luck with the 250 boxes challenge!

Hello Shinkai!

Thank you for your explicit feedback on my exercises. However I need to say that I did use points for drawing the lines. Also drawing some lines twice results of touching the paper slightly by accident when ghosting. Other than that, I will work with what critique I got, thank you :>

Alright then, my bad! I'm quite new to critiquing others work so hopefully you don't take it wrong. Also, you're welcome :3

The recommendation below is an advertisement. Most of the links here are part of Amazon's affiliate program (unless otherwise stated), which helps support this website. It's also more than that - it's a hand-picked recommendation of something I've used myself. If you're interested, here is a full list.

Let's be real here for a second: fineliners can get pricey. It varies from brand to brand, store to store, and country to country, but good fineliners like the Staedtler Pigment Liner (my personal brand favourite) can cost an arm and a leg. I remember finding them being sold individually at a Michael's for $4-$5 each. That's highway robbery right there.

Now, we're not a big company ourselves or anything, but we have been in a position to periodically import large batches of pens that we've sourced ourselves - using the wholesale route to keep costs down, and then to split the savings between getting pens to you for cheaper, and setting some aside to one day produce our own.

These pens are each hand-tested (on a little card we include in the package) to avoid sending out any duds (another problem with pens sold in stores). We also checked out a handful of different options before settling on this supplier - mainly looking for pens that were as close to the Staedtler Pigment Liner. If I'm being honest, I think these might even perform a little better, at least for our use case in this course.

We've also tested their longevity. We've found that if we're reasonably gentle with them, we can get through all of Lesson 1, and halfway through the box challenge. We actually had ScyllaStew test them while recording realtime videos of her working through the lesson work, which you can check out here, along with a variety of reviews of other brands.

Now, I will say this - we're only really in a position to make this an attractive offer for those in the continental United States (where we can offer shipping for free). We do ship internationally, but between the shipping prices and shipping times, it's probably not the best offer you can find - though this may depend. We also straight up can't ship to the UK, thanks to some fairly new restrictions they've put into place relating to their Brexit transition. I know that's a bummer - I'm Canadian myself - but hopefully one day we can expand things more meaningfully to the rest of the world.
