Resubmitted cause I accidentally submitted it as partial. Sorry that the pages are not in order. Imgur shuffled all of them when I'm selecting the images to upload so sorry about that.

Hi TheCajeisalie, Im gonna go through your submission!

First of all, good job completing the challenge, while there are issues on there that I want to highlight and explain, you did a good job on completing it and growing in the process.

So, the main issue that I'm seeing here is that your boxes are not converging to vanishing points, if you take a look at this diagram of this particular box, you can see that a whole set of parallels is converging to the same point. What happened in this box is that those set of parallels are just randomly positioned, with a really vague idea of where they need to converge to. I'm seeing that in a lot of cases you are trying to make so your set of parallels are indeed parallel to each other, remember that, that kind of situation is only happening to 1 and 2 point perspective (explained here) and in this challenge you are supposed to work exclusively on 3 point perspective, meaning that you have to think in 3 vanishing points to which your 3 set of parallels converge to.

All this said, I want to make a clarification of what I mean with parallel lines- The parallel lines we all know are lines that go to the same direction but never touch, now when you put those parallel lines on perspective, they touch at their vanishing point, this is called convergence! Check this section of lesson 1 where it is explained. The hard part of this challenge is that each of these boxes have 3 of these vanishing points whit their own set of parallel lines that converge towards those points.

Other than this, while your line quality is pretty solid, remember to take your time ghosting them, even if its line weight, Im seeing quite some hiccups of your lines confidently (which is good) going off to a remarkable different direction where they need to. All this said, remember that accuracy will come with time and practice, so dont worry too much just yet.

One thing that I want to comment on is that you are doing a good job on drawing your boxes bigger at the end of the challenge! Drawing big is really important since it makes it easier for you to use your whole shoulder , and also, the bigger that drawing the easier it is for your brain to engage on spatial problems such as this!

Now, I cant mark this challenge as completed seeing that you are struggling so much on converging your parallels to a vanishing point, thats why I will ask for some revision, we are going to try to make the least amount of boxes possible because you have already done 250. However, you need to understand that understanding this is key for moving forward with the course, thats why we'll also stay here for a little longer until this concepts are clear!

Next Steps:

So, I will ask for just one page with exactly 4 boxes, I want you to really take your time with them and trying to consciously think how the different sets of lines converge into their own vanishing point. You are doing a great job on confidence and line quality, we just need to adjust this perspective issue so you can move forward!

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Sorry for taking a while to respond. Thank you so much for taking your time with your critique and I'm glad that you didn't sugarcoat it. Don't mind the mistake I made with one of the boxes and I'm fine with whatever you will say afterwards.

Okay, Im glad you found it useful and that you are willing to afron the mistake, thats really important for moving forward. That said, I think that in your last two boxes there is a huge improvement on convergence, there is still some calibration issues, but I think that you are starting to understand what you need to be aiming for with your boxes.

This said, whenever you are drawing your lines so they go towards a vanishing point, you need to take into account how that line will relate with the other lines in the set so you can guess more accuractely. I know how confusing it sounds, but here is a diagram that explains it better, just look at it from time to time and it will eventually click. Im confident on explaining you this because you showed that you understood what I told you on the last revision!

Also check this method of construction to solve the back cornern issue.

Now, we are going to make some more boxes so you can get some practice with this new concepts, Im not aiming for you to hist these perfectly, as I said I want you to have some room for playing with this elements before you move on with the course.

Next Steps:

Im going to ask for two more pages with 4 boxes in each so you can have some space, remember to take your time and try to actually solve these thinking them like an exercise, which they are!

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

The Art of Blizzard Entertainment

While I have a massive library of non-instructional art books I've collected over the years, there's only a handful that are actually important to me. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment. My back's been sore for a week.

The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
