No problem at all, glad you noticed so you didn't accidentally end up waiting.

Your boxes are definitely looking better here so I'll be marking your submission complete.

I'm glad you've enjoyed the course enough to not only get to lesson 4 but also want official critique. As mentioned before I will be asking you to redo lesson 2 as well as the others once you get the go ahead to move on to the next lesson.

This is because without us seeing current work we can't tell what issues are still present or not, as an example I took a look at your lesson 2 work quickly and your lines lack confidence so they tend to wobble. When looking at your work closer to the present like your box challenge submission you've improved and your lines are looking much better.

If I was looking at your old lesson 2 work I'd probably ask you to redo a bunch of line related exercises to make sure you're drawing confidently and stress how important it is, but that information is no longer relevant to you so It just wastes your time, as well as mine by explaining it and then waiting to see your redone work. By redoing it with your current abilities we can make sure your critique is actually focused around things you need to improve on as well as make sure you don't have any holes in your skill set when you move forward.

Anyways, that's the reasoning if you were curious at all. From this point forward it's all going to be current work so you don't need to explain your story anymore, just try your best and we'll do our best to help.

I'll be the TA handling your lesson 2 work (unless something comes up) so I look forward to seeing your work once you've submitted it.

Keep practicing previous exercises as warm ups and good luck!

Next Steps:

Move on to lesson 2.

This critique marks this lesson as complete.

Sweet, thanks again Tofu. Thank you especially for taking the etxtra time to flip through my old submission and clarify anything I wasn't sure about. I look forward to seeing how I've progressed with my next submission!

The Art of Blizzard Entertainment

While I have a massive library of non-instructional art books I've collected over the years, there's only a handful that are actually important to me. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment. My back's been sore for a week.

The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
