Hi TKH, well done for finishing Lesson 1. Here are my thoughts on each section of your work.

Lines

Your lines are confident, straight, and connect the points accurately most of the time. Nothing particular to note here.

Ellipses

Your ellipses are smooth and confident, but you need to work just a little more on the table of ellipses. You should use the space better so that the ellipses are touching each other as well as the borders without overlapping. There are also some gaps here and there that you haven't filled in.

In your ellipses in planes, there are a few that are not touching or overlapping the edges of the planes. Some ellipses don't seem to fit in the perspective of the planes that they are sitting on, but getting the perspective correct isn't our main focus in Lesson 1 so it should be fine.

Boxes

They look great in general. I like how you have put weight on the edges in your plotted boxes exercise.

In the rotated boxes exercise, you have irregular gaps between the boxes. The gaps should be closer and consistent.

Next Steps:

I would like to ask you to do another page of table of ellipses, really focusing on making the ellipses touch each other and the border without floating in the space. You should at the same time try to maintain the smoothness.

Once you reply to this thread with the completed revision, I can mark this lesson as complete and you can move onto the 250 Box Challenge.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Hello

Thank you for your feedback and taking time to review my work.

Here is another table of ellipses, as requested:

There is a focus here on everything touching but it came at a little cost of looser work.

Probably a good exercise to do from time to time to tighten everything up within a set space and work on all the aspects together.

Thanks again.

Hi TKH

Your ellipses look better. I think I can mark the lesson as complete!

Next Steps:

You can move on to the 250 Box Challenge. It's going to take a while to finish the challenge so don't forget to draw for fun as well.

Good luck! :)

The Art of Brom

The Art of Brom

Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.

The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
