Hello, this is my second attempt at Lesson 1. I hope to start the 250 Box Challenge

Superimposed Lines

Pg 1 very frayed, pg 2 frays getting much better

Ghosted Lines

Very straight and accurate

Ghosted Planes

Very accurate

Tables of Ellipses

Very few sloppy ellipses

Ellipses in Planes

Some ellipses not superimposed well, but goal of exercise well met.

Funnels

More than a few funnels not symmetrical on minor axis. Would like to see more variety in degree.

Plotted Perspective

All look good to me.

Rough Perspective

Pg 1 very sloppy. Vertical lines all leaning.

Pg 2 better but still needs work on verticals.

Rotated Boxes

Tough exercise. Try distorting the corners more sharply to get that spherical look.

Organic Perspective

Some rough lines, some duplicated lines. Some curved lines. A lot of distorted boxes.Don’t forget the basics of ghosting.

Next Steps:

i would try the Rotated Boxes and the Organic Perspective exercises again. It seems like you struggled with those.

Then move on to 250 Boxes Challenge.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Thank you for your advice. I think moving onto the 250 Box Challenge will definitely help me with these exercises in the future.

The Art of Brom

The Art of Brom

Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.

The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
